I know you have done some work with audience surveying and shared ideas with Ted K. This is something I've also done but am interested in any of your work with this. Have you any of this type of material in your published works or any thoughts or ideas you care share? It's great to have you here as special guest.

Thank you for your warm welcome.
In my book, "Astrologic", which is a complete treatment on my work centered on the "What's My Sign?" premise, I include a reprint of my effect "Zodiesque" from Lee Earle's SYZYGY periodical. Lee is another incredibly creative mind out there who has a keen nose for great mentalism presentations. Anyway, I digress. Zodiesque uses quintessentially the concept of audience surveying that you are referring to which inspired Ted to come up with his idea. (I also wrote the joke he uses about labeling people in the last season mentioned as being "axe murderers.") Also the concept of "audience surveying" or simply observing one's audience for "advantageous signs" is something we all should have at the ready as data is absorbed about our audience. It's an advanced way of thinking since it is about having certain control over an audience dynamic and not just one on one. Even in my latest limited edition release, PSYCHO-CHRONETIC, the whole effect begins with a quick assessment of four individuals out of an audience (re: the stage version). |

This is where it pays to take courses in understanding people. I find that course material on social engineering is priceless. It is astounding what people give away about themselves.
A book like What Every BODY is Saying: A......g People by Marvin Karlins is great as well. Understanding the people in the audience is very important and well worth a discussion. Kingman |

BTW, I didn't mean to diminish Ted's effect, especially since I think that Ted K's version in his no prop act is absolutely phenomenal. And I agree with you, Mindpro, the concept as a whole can be seen as an under-utilized principle.
...I seem to recall that Rick Maue's "The Journey" might have a similar vibe as well? Anyway, I think Ted's streamlined method is the best hands down, but I'm now curious about your work into this concept! Alain |

In many ways, reading the audience is more important than anything else we do. It's an art in itself.

I've talked to Ted about his/your collaborations on this and realized that I had been doing something quite similar only under a different guise or premise. I do both stage hypnosis shows and mentalism shows, and occasionally get asked to do combination performances, actually it seems like more and more from previous clients who want once again what they've previously enjoyed but with something new as well.
What I've been doing is some initial audience surveying early in the performance as part of my suggestibility tests, which as you can imagine then open things up nicely for use later in the show. They work so well in conjunction with standard hypnosis suggestibility tests that nobody ever remembers or suspects anything later. I've enjoyed your thinking on the concept. |
