Think of the water damage done, at the very least.
Keeping our fingers crossed.

Yes...my daughter who lives in Burbank,Ca., just called to tell me about it. She passes by the Castle everyday going to work. She heard there were over 100 fire fighters on the scene.

They said that the fire is inside the walls which makes a very difficult fire to get control of.
I hope there is not too much damage. I also hope no one was inside and no one got hurt. This will be a memorable Halloween for this alone...sad. Mobius |

I saw on the news that the fire is out.
Thank goodness no one was hurt or killed. Buildings can be repaired. Sadly, no one is going clubbing there again until the fire marshal says so, and he may easily (and wisely) call for certain repairs to happen before re-opening. This is very sad news to me, I love that place.

Wow...this sucks. I'll be in town later in the week, and was hoping to go a couple of times while I was in LA. So glad to hear no one was injured.

I happened to driving right by the Castle shortly after the fire engines began to arrive. I didn't see any flames, but a lot of smoke was pouring out of the roof. It was a sickening sight.

The fire started in the attic space above the third floor offices. They are guessing this was a result of roof repairs that were done last Monday.
There was significant water damage to the third floor and the Dante Room, due to the sprinkler system; which by the way had helped slow the fire down. No one was hurt and the fire was extinguished in an hour. I spoke to Jack Goldfinger today. The Magic Castle will be closed until the damage can be accessed. They hope to reopen Friday if all goes well. The LAFD and Magic Castle staff was able move many artifacts and endangered articles to safety. I'm going to the Castle Tuesday to survey the damage and retrieve my props from the venue I was performing at. This is a sad closing, to what was a brilliant performance week. I had been performing in the Parlour all week to capacity audiences. |

Sounds like some damage but not enough to kept it shut for long. A lot of what's in there can't be replaced. No one hurt is the only good news out of this.

http://echopark.patch.com/articles/with-......n-friday Looks like it could have been A LOT worse. Fire fighters did everything they could to preserve her. And they may be able to open on Friday. Now that would be real magic! Ken |

The fire stops short the Castle’s “Inferno Week,” with the fire ironically starting at the exact hour of Houdini’s death.
One of the last living 10-in-one performers. I wanted to be in show business the worst way, and that was it.
