Great trick! When did Mr. Swain publish this? I purchased the same effect from a magician in Washington who claims originality...

Rocky,
According to Wikipedia it "Don't Blink" was published in 1992. In the book Mr. Swain discusses the tricks that came before his version. Perhaps the magician you bought it from was doing one of those earlier versions. KG |

Paul Cummins (?) put this out as a packet trick sometime after it appeared in Jim Swain's book, with Jim's permission. They are friends, and I believe used to both work a restaurant in Sarasota called the Magic Moment. However, the cards I was sent were *aces* and I feel there is more whimsy to the trick with queens, especially with a female spectator as Kent suggested. I believe Gary Plants makes this up in queens again now.
If this is inaccurate I apologize in advance. |

I purchased the effect from Steve Dobson in 2009. His handling is exactly the same as the video demo posted originally on this thread except there are tens instead of queens. I have the instructions and no credit is given to Mr. Swain.

Nice, Kent. I used to use it in my restaurant work and it gets a mention in my book "Still Small, Still Deadly" in the chapter on packet brainwaves.

Kent,
Here's what I think. Your performance is, as usual, very good. I used to love this trick and perform it frequently. However, I am bothered by the inconsistency that appears repeatedly in the trick. I fully realize that almost all magic employs discrepancies, but to my way of thinking, this one is just too blatant and will be picked up at some point by almost anybody who's watching closely. Not that this reveals the method to a layman, but I fear it sends a signal that something isn't right. I don't want to say more at this time to prevent exposure on this forum. I'd be interested in hearing from you and others on whether my concern is warranted. I hope you understand my concerns without me having to state it more explicitly. Mike |

One of my favorite packet tricks. This was also sold as a stand alone trick by Jim. Not sure which was sold first. The cards that Gary Plants put out with Jim were a better quality then the original, which I bought many moons ago.
