Is Warlock also based on another trick or is it an original idea?

I have just placed my order for Warlock.
:) It should arrive in the next 3-4 day. I will happily share my thoughts. Would you believe me that I purchased it without looking the demo video? I have trust on Andy Nyman's realeses. :) I am going to watch the demo right now.

I have both, Warlok and Big Reaction.
As all the routines from Andy the simplicity of the concetp is what make the effect a killer routine! My head already was spinning with the concept used in warlok and I already have an idea on how to transform the routine for stage!(thanks Andy!) About Big Reaction, is really a ....big reaction. I have performed this in my gig the 31th december at the Hotel Danieli in Venice and the new plot on this concept make the routine outstanding.I had standing ovations at the tables!!The good things is that for the people that see that reactions (owner of the hotel, directors etc...)it is a great things for repeating booking! Highly reccomended both the routines! :)

Big Reaction looks ok , but Warlock its just a confusing premise.
It´s mindreading or precognition? So at the end the second word was really plucked for the participant´s minds? The lack of subtext on that effect is big in my opinion.

Big Reaction looks amazing. Looking forward to buying it. (BTW, I'm a newcomer to Andy Nyman's The Hidden - and it's blowing people away!)

When I first saw the trailer, I, too was concerned about "knowing" the 2nd word ahead of time, and yet trying to"read" the person's mind. I thought if I were to do this, I would keep them both as "mind reading".
After others had similar concerns, I showed the trailer to my wife, who gets to see much too much magic. She thought it was great with the ending and even when I pointed out the issue, she felt that the circled word added a lot. There was no concern over different or muddied effects. She felt it made the 2 parts of the effect different so they were not "then same" and concluded with a bigger ending. I guess it's magician/mentalist versus the public's point of view. Jim |

Now that I've had time to think about this, the issue could be covered in the presentation one gives making it seem more fitting.

Regarding Big Reaction, what makes it $47? I can do lucky cards for $25 and a blank Phil deck for under $20. What am I missing?

And I don't think that is a matter of performers vs audience thinking. It´s just believing in what you are doing with a coherent premise. If someone just see your show to react on the moment , so it´s fine. But the after effect for me is so important as the immediate effect. Present experience and memories.

I agree Amira, as we know that for the most part when the audience gets home, they will be thinking about the performance and certain things that went on during that performance. This is not something I would personally use but at the same time I can see the initial impact it can have given at the time of the effect.

I've quickly seen through the method of Warlock (after watching it two times).
But that doesn't mean it's bad - the employed principles are simple and clever, and you can apply it to so many other patterns! Personally, I don't like predictions any more, so I would use my knowledge of the second participant's word in a different way.

Nicolino, I do agree; simple, but clever method (and a bow to Roy Johnson) with more applications. I've my doubts in general about the use of a dictionary in this context. But it's still worth a try. I guess that quite a lot of people (with some knowledge) after seeing the video won't buy it as it is easy to make it up by themselves, probably also using own business cards. A bit a shame for Peter as the whole package is a deal. Jan

Jan, can you direct me to Roy's work? Which book to start with would be worthwhile to hunt down? I was offered some notes in German but can't judge whether they are recommendable to begin with?
Thanks!

To be honest, I think I got everything in English, and it is all so good that I would say try to get everything you can get! As far as I know my collection is really complete and I love it... Jan

Big reaction appears to be similar to Phil/Phil2 etc using the SA P****a cards. Just a guess... Looks fun.
I liked Warlock better.

I love lots of Nyman's stuff but an effect like Big Reaction comes along once in a while that screams at me "Doesn't Invisible Deck more or less do that (i.e. they name any card - it turns out to be different to the others in the deck) for probably a 5th of the price?". Unfair?

I've just ordered one, I think this looks like a perfect closing trick to me, leave the audience cheering as you walk off to the next table. What you are paying for is a well structured ROUTINE.
Oh and I think most people here could either figure this method, or a workable method, but shouldn't we support the creator and buy it, and not just take his presentation without paying for it? IMHO |

I bought both of these (even though I basically already had one in Bulletproof) simply cos' I love Andy Nyman's stuff, the way he thinks, and I love watching / listening to him talk magic. True, I can afford to do such things, but that's not really here nor there. Great effects, both of them. Steph |
