HN Review 65: Linking rubber bands – George Murray / Norm Nielsen
AD: Couldn’t find the ad anymore. It is a linking rubber bands effect (distributed by Norm Nielsen), in which the linked bands may be examined with a microscope by the spectator after the "linking". REVIEW: You get the linked set and a clear forcing bag. The gimmicked bands are too thick and large to be used in other effects, and obviously do not match the regular bands inside the bag. Overall rating: junk H.

If I recall you completely trashed a wonderful routine by Andy Leviss called Linked 4 Life. I'd be interested to know which routine you do use that makes use of such linked bands that you are happy with?

The method had already been published by Kaufman, Weber, and many others (Bernard Sim’s Really Linked, just to name
another Café Member). Linked For Life consists in 2 stapled A4 pages describing a phony handling that could have been published in a magazine in the worst case scenario (but please note its rating was “weak”, not “junk”)

Harvey, would you mind explaining to me how a handling that I've been using for many years to great effect and that's received great feedback from countless performers including one or two who are known for specializing in rubberband magic (in fact, of all the reviews, both private and public, yours has been the ONLY negative one--just look at its review thread here, and some of the comments from those who saw it before it was released in a couple threads in the "Rings, Strings, and Things" section), is phony?
If you don't like it or can't do it effectively, that's fine. But I resent your suggestion that because you personally don't find it effective in your hands, it's "phony", especially when there are dozens of other magicians out there who are using it to great effect. To say you don't like it is one thing. To call it "phony" is going over the line. Also, let's be clear. The method for making a linked set has been previously published many times. That's not what I'm selling. I'm selling a unique and very open, clean, deceptive way to perform the actual link that ends with the two bands permanently linked. If I didn't include the instructions for making the linked set, of course, it would be incomplete, so I did include them (in great detail, much greater detail in fact than in a couple other popular sources).

"great feedback from countless performers", "dozens of other magicians out there who are using it to great effect", "a famous illusionist said this was the worst trick of the year"... Quotes and unspecified words won’t set you free, Andy.
Especially when we know that many quotes come from creators, nicknames of creators, wholesale distributors, nicknames of wholesale distributors, magic dealers, nicknames of magic dealers, people involved in the publication/manufacturing and kids who spend their parents’ hard-earned cash to buy their very first tricks... Having an insane interest for rubber bands, I have been purchasing most of the relevant items on the market for 20 years and my reviews are mostly based on the features of previous products. However this is off-topic, since the subject here should be the Nielsen bands; please refer to the correct thread for further details. Best, H.

Harvey is right about this is getting off topic. Harvey did not bring up " Linked for Life ".
Bonzo brought it up and Harvey obviously didn't like it. He does have a right not to like it. I also agree with Harvey their is lots of positive feedback on certain effects so their creations are not bashed. |

While gimmick bands have ther place ,I recommend Chris Kenners missing Link .Totally impromptu and thers no gimmicks and the bands can be inspected before and after.
hope this helps vinny |
