I wanted to see if anyone had a suggestion for a floating mic stand as I have read that the floating appearing one that can be found on hocus pocus's site isn't very good. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I prefer to use a seance cloth for this. Same results.

Hi Josh,
The originator is Don Wayne - see his website. Lou Hilario gives you a good advice, but it always has to be light, very light. |

Mcvicarthetrickster - are you possibly confusing the Wayne effect with a different "springy microphone stand" HP was selling? This stand wiggled all around and could have possibly been mistaken for Wayne's effect. The springy stand, made in Japan, is no longer on the site - and - this... http://hocus-pocus.com/magicshop/product......tem=4384 appears be different then the Wayne version, as well.
Then again... most magicians forget that their audience probably have never seen any type or style of microphone floating anything and whatever effect you create with the prop becomes the effect you create in their mind.

Is there a demo of the Don Wayne version anywhere?

Hi Eyes of Darkness,
The most known version of Don Wayne's Floating Microphone is presented by Luis De Matos, the portuguese magician. Do a search on the internet or go to his website and you can watch him presenting the effect. It looks awesome. http://www.luisdematos.pt Oliver. |

This is great information, I've done a few searches trying to find his floating mic stand and I'm having a hard time, any suggestions of where to find this product.

As far as I know, this product is out of production. Your only hope is to find a used on. It is a little on the delicate side so don't expect to find may used ones around.
I just saw Jay Matioli do a nice routine at Magic at the Beach with it. Richard

I own Don Wayne's floating mic stand and don't find it to be, as Richard suggests, 'on the delicate side'.
There are other floating mic stands out there. One is an appearing-floating mic stand based on appearing pole technology.... I haven't seen any positive reviews for this product. Then there's the possibility of doing a routine with a spirit cloth but I think Don Wayne's version stands out from both of these ideas. As someone pointed out in a previous post there's a fantastic clip on Luis De Matos's web site of him performing Don Wayne's effect and it shows you what can be achieved with it with some creative input and smooth handling.

Sealegs,
I will defer to your judgement. I was just going by remarks I have had performers tell me backstage. It is a lightweight prop so one should govern accordingly. Richard

Hi Guys!
Thank you so much for mentioning my name in relation to this wonderful Don Wayne creation. There a very old clip of mine in our old website. The new website is currently accessable at luisdematos.com and the old one is luisdematos.pt If you guys would like to check the mentioned video you should go to luisdematos.pt, then click on SHOWROOM, then TV, then SEE VIDEOS and finally scroll thru the videos list till DANCING MICROPHONE. Sorry there is no direct link to it sind the site was done in flash back in 2004... Wishing you guys a great 2012, All the Best, Luis |

I use a floating mic stand in my act, but I have seen many magicians use it with a th**d H**d and cloth. I find that these both work equally well.

Hi Bejamagic,
That's what Lou Hilario (2e post) called the seance cloth the classic version of the th**d h**d ! It's never to late studying the history of the art. |

The Don Wayne floating mic is solidly built and doesn't use the spring light appearing cane method. It's very well made.
I have one and certainly takes a lot of practice to master the moves. As you can see from the Luis De Matos clip that it is a very nice effect. Paul Romhany has one too but his uses a broom instead for his Charlie Chaplin act.

As Luis De Matos' clip is no longer accessible on his website does anyone know of any other clips or demos of this effect being performed?

I have the Don Wayne version, and I've seen a lot of guys do it, and the best I've seen perform it, hands down, is Bruce Gold.

I wondered why this topic was so strange, it is because they chose to use an older duplicate topic, instead of the more current one.
Go here: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......&forum=7 this is only a few post down. There you will find out how to contact Don Wayne, the only source for his Floating Microphone Stand. He does not wholesale this product, that is why none can be found on magic websites. It has not been mentioned if Don Wayne still makes them, as no one comes back and informs us of their contact results. Just remember they are not cheap, and prices have increased since 30 years ago. No, there is not video of the effect, except as mentioned above. This was invented and sold before easy video and the Internet. So don't embarrass yourself and ask Don Wayne. |
