How can you guys use names like Carpenter, Bannon, Daryl and Williamson as being overlooked? These are some MAJOR names in our field. They may be overlooked, but only by the general public. Anybody who has spent more than 10 minutes with a deck of cards in their hands knows who these guys are and what they're capable of.

I think Jim Swain would deserve a much greater attention. His card work is superb!

I thought of a few more that are much more well known in the UK and they include Walt Lees and Eric de la Mare. I am a huge fan of Walt Lees. My first encounter with Walt Lees' work was in the pages of Pabular. His "My Blue Ac-es" is a thing of beauty and predates a similar effect by David Regal by a couple of decades. de la Mare's magic is so beautifully sophisticated and worth a peek. A couple of people in this thread mentioned Richard Vollmer. I absolutely love his work. His creations are excellent and his Poor Man's Monte and Earthly Powers are in my working repertoire. look through the pages of Apocalypse and you will find a lot of excellent magic by Monsieur Vollmer. Many of our friends from France will of course be cognizant of the fact that Richard Vollmer did a book called The Very Best of Apocalypse for French readers. I would love to snag at least the table of contents for that book to see what Vollmer chose as the very best from such an emerald mine! Ahimsa, Vlad PS: Jean-Jacques Sanvert is of course a very well known name but I wanted to comment that I am honored that he is here on The Café. Check him out on YouTube then learn some of his beautiful work in Apocalypse and other sources. On YouTube, look for his 7 minute video called "Sympathy for the Dealing." Set to the Stones' classic "Sympathy for the Devil," this video is nothing less than a tour de force of sublime card work. |

"Bill Kalush of New York City is one of the most gifted cardmen in magic." Yes, yes, yes! He is really good.

I second that. Bill Kalush's classic pass is something to behold.

Tom Gagnon is another that doesn't get a lot of recognition.

I will add Richard Kauffman to the list, I think people thinks of him more as a writer and publisher.

Don't know if these guys count as "underrated" or not, but they've come up with a few effects that are my favs, and I don't hear their name in connection with card magic as much as some others:
Frank Simon Dan Harlan (realize he's well known, but I'm talking about some of his card work in particular).
