Just saw the new email about a bunch of no-pocket hook ups?
Kind of a bummer that this wasn't just included with the initial product, since the web spinner didn't really come with hook up basics. I felt that you had to have previously known about other hook up's to play with the possibilities that web spinner brings. If I had no idea what a hook up was or how to hook up, the web spinner would have just been a stripper. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE my web spinner and I'm a fan of Steve's work. I'm just not sure if it's worth the $5 to learn some old stuff that's been included in previous Fearson products. Anyone wants to chime in, please do. |

It was most likely not included because the hook-ups require a longer strand of thread than the Spinner comes with. As for the basic instructions included with the Web Spinner, I'm going to detail the back story behind it all ... could be a lengthy post, but will make for a good read - especially for someone that wants to market their own magic.
I first tried to bring the "Thread Tube" to market in 2004 ... had no clue what I was doing. Took forever to make them and I quickly realized I wasn't ready for this. A few years ago, the local magi told me there was a new guy in town and I wanted to meet him - said his name was Jeff Stewart and I should Google him, which I did. I discovered that this guy had at least a dozen magic tricks on the market and to my surprise, I actually owned one of them already. So I concluded they were right, and set about meeting this guy. We were at a dive choke and puke where he said he wanted to learn how to shoot pool ... lucky for me, I used to spend a lot of time in pool halls when I was a teenager. So we dropped a dollar into the bar table and to his amazement I was able to run the whole table (from break to 8-ball) ... which was more even luck for me being as how I hadn't actually picked up a pool stick in over 10 years now. So we began hanging out and as I was teaching him how to shoot pool I was picking his brain on how to market magic tricks. I had shown him what I had come up with and he bluntly explained I was doing it all wrong, that this would never work. It was too complicated. The instructions covered everything about the tube, the moves, the hook-ups, lighting, okito stuff, the list went on and on and on. He said the tube had to do one thing - it floats a dollar bill - period. After that, you can give them ideas on other things to do with it, but don't give them a book. It has to fit on one page that can be folded over. As he is telling me all this, I thought back to buying my Cornelius Pen through Anything which came with a xerox page of instructions that covered the basic moves ... it was the guy at the demo table that showed me the "rip gimmick", how to ditch it with a m*****, and all the other fancy stuff. I then remembered the Jeff Stewart's rope trick I had already purchased, it came stabled to a piece of paper that contained the instructions. Ahh - things are starting to click! So I concluded that he was right and set about writing the one page instruction sheet ... pretty much the same sheet you get with the Web Spinner today; Steve Fearson took my sheet and updated my cheesy graphics into more professional images (and probably fixed some spelling errors in the process). The result is a word I've seen over and over on this thread ... "simplicity" ... before the one page instruction sheet, that is not a word that people attached to my "Thread Tube". It was complicated, because the instructions made it look complicated. So there is the back story on why the instructions are so basic and simple ... things have worked out a lot better this way. In fact, I can say with utmost certainty that if I had not simplified the instructions, you would not have a Web Spinner in your hand today. It just wasn't working. But I'm not discouraged ... I know that people are going to come up with new hook-ups ... and they will be shared in the back rooms at magic conventions. The guy at the demo counter will show you something awesome you can do with it. I'm sure Steve and other magicians will want to publish hook-ups and moves they figure out. And maybe you'll discover your own little secret move. I'm actually very excited - this is really just the beginning, as I have no doubts that the Web Spinner is not some passing phase listed on the "Whats Hot" page - it is here to stay and will become common place in thread work finding a home in magic cases around the world. If you don't have one yet ... you really are missing out big time! This is not just a new magic trick, this is a whole new chapter in the history of thread work. Don't take my word for it ... go back and read all the awesome reviews posted here and everywhere else online! http://www.emagicsupply.com/index.php?ma......s_id=308 -JoeJoe

I totally understand where you're coming from.
All I was trying to figure out was if the new hook up's that Steve was offering was same old Fearson hook up via Web Spinner. I've been implementing his stuff already, so I don't want to end up rebuying the same old technique. Aside from that, your Web Spinner is gold and holds great value in my routines! |

I don't know how much leeway I have to say, so I'm going to refer you to Steve.
http://www.emagicsupply.com/index.php?main_page=contact_us I can say that I had to show a magic demo guy how to hookup a dollar bill the other day, and I used Steve's new "birthday suit" hookup as I didn't have a pocket. It is something like my "under the hat" hookup in that it is quick, dirty, and gets the job done ... but not the most desirable hookup (meaning, I would have preferred to be wearing a pocket). -JoeJoe

I think while the Spider Pen fiasco gets sorted out, everyone should be thankful JoeJe and Steve released the Web Spinner. An inexpensive device that actually does what it says it will and more.

The "birthday suit" hookup in Steve's instant download seems to be a winner ... I've had more time to play with it, and the guys at Conley's House of Magic have been using it to demo (since they often do not have pockets).
If you use this hookup ... you don't have to go under your shirt, you can do it outside your shirt ... and you don't have to do it as a Fearson hookup, you can just use it as a normal floating dollar bill hookup - just skip the Fearson part and take the thread straight to your anchor point. I'm pretty sure I will be using this hookup more often. Steve Fearson is a true genius!!! http://www.emagicsupply.com/index.php?ma......s_id=368 -JoeJoe

Reason's why Joe Joe's Web Spinner has become the single best selling thread apparatus in the shop I work at 1: many top names in the magic biz have two or three of these already (Joe Joe sold out his entire stock at a recent convention) 2: reloads easy. 3: no batteries. 4: can use any thread. 5: peeling the string is almost idiot proof. 6: no elaborate hookups requiring pins or clips. 7: versatility of applications (more to come on this I'm sure) 8: compact design. 9: it is virtually unbreakable. 10: its not a rehashed 2.0 or Pro version of a mediocre product. We've even had people ask for it by name. With the bad press looming in the "Thread" niche these days, it is nice to have an old reliable to fall back on. I look forward to more offerings from Joe Joe. Props that work made by workers. Thanks Joe Joe. p.s. I'll take payment in non-sequential bills, more big than little, in a small paper sack deliverable to me at the shop.

The WebSpinner has enabled me to perform more than once when my primary ITR(s) failed. It can't be beat for ease of use and versatility.
Now what you need to do, JoeJoe, is to miniaturize it to fit in a classly looking pen. And yes, a DVD would be a must watch.

I bought this web spinner and...? And, I like it.
Imagine that you can animate and levitate any light object wherever you go. I enjoy to borrow a piece of tissue paper, animate it and levitate it from one hand onto the other. Simple and easy trick, especially with the help of web spinner, that creates awesome responsive effect. Few years ago, I bought Master Levitation System but I haven't use it at all. But, now with the web spinner, I carry it everywhere I go together with the Stand Up Monte and PK ring. I am new and a novice in IT. In addition, I am not a professional magician. Web spinner removes my fear away from peeling the thread and this helps me perform awesome magic. As I am new, Joe Joe and many other kind souls, would you mind to send me your links or videos on how I can better use this heavenly gift? Thanks. Yes! Don't miss this value for money product. |

Roland - thanks for taking the time to review my Web Spinner! I'm glad you like is, and that you are now getting to use your Master Levitation System. You are a part of what I've always known is the "target market" for the Web Spinner - people that have bought thread products, but don't actually use them.
This is mostly because thread in itself is not practical, and as you have discovered the Web Spinner finally makes it practical to do thread work. It makes every aspect of thread work easier and faster. Short clip showing how easy it is to strip thread with a Web Spinner ... here I strip a 10 foot stand on a boardwalk full of people. This device practically strips the thread for you itself:

Thanks Joe Joe for your web spinner, now I have so much fun with IT. Joe Joe, indeed, amazing!
Thanks for your video as well. Btw, I have use a piece of straw just as how Steve has taught on his Master Levitation System. With the straw, I am keeping my thread inside the tube instead of having it dangling outside. |

Not sure exactly what you are saying with the straw Roland, but if it is working for you then awesome.
I have a script almost finished for the DVD and hope to start filming as early as next week. No ETA - I want to do this right and not limit myself to a time table. -JoeJoe
