Tony,
Are there any books or movies that have given you ideas for any of your effects or presentations? Books and movies seem like they'd be a great source of inspiration.

Hey Motown. Awesome question indeed and yes there are.
In no particular order here are some. The movie, One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest. There were some inspirations from this movie for Hampton Falls. The movie The Crow, is the also inspirational for an upcoming gothic magic effect coming up. The Movie, Interview with the Vampire was the inspiration for my vampire effect, The Card of Nosferatu. The Movie The Crossroads, was a big influence on my effect of the same name, The Crossroads. I know there are more and will try to post them as I think of them.

Tony,
I've also found that movies and books are a valuable source of inspiration for finding the right props, as well as ideas for making intesting props.

My children show is going to be wizard themed so harry potter is a great source for me. There are very nice projects for all who try this kind of magic (the story is very important and I don't use harry potter directly in my show) here are some nice diy projects:

Hi Cirrus,
I totally forgot about Harry Potter. I also did a Harry Potter tribute show for about 6 years. It is a great direction to work in. I stopped a couple of years ago as the shows were getting less for me as the movies and books became more aimed at older kids. I have not don one now in over 3 years. Perhaps it is partly my own fault as I stopped marketing it over the phone to parents and just sell my Zany Zack show now. My Harry Potter tribute show was a completely different character as I performed as Willow the wizard and it was a different costume, case, show and character. It is always fun to introduce a new character.
