Anyone know any information about "Heartless," by Jim Steinmeyer?
A recent full-page ad in Genii directs one to his Web site, on which there isn't much of any info about it, except a reference to a recent Ramon & Costa tour, which featured this illusion. |

Hi,
You now can find a photo of this illusion in Magic magazine march 2012 page 15. But keep in mind: it's a design of Jim Steinmeyer ! ! |

John--Not sure what that means...
Marknem7- The prop is built by Willie Kennedy and is a very deceptive effect in which a girls head and hands extend through the top of the shaped enclosure. A large round tube is shoved through the middle along with 2 spears. The ends of the tube are opened allowing a clear view through. Her torso appears to have vanished. Strong audience reaction to Alex Ramons performance of this effect.

Purely from a magician's persepective.. doesn't the shape of the legs sort of give it away?

Makeupguy- my exact thoughts.
modern art with out the movement of the top half. but I am sure to a lay audience this plays well.

I think it looks great, from the hips up. The shape given to the legs definitgley telegraphs too much, which beggs the question: why not just shape the legs differently, more deceptively "away"?

Agreed! I just asked a couple of lay people how they thought it was done, and that all guessed it right.
I know it is not always about the secret but the presentation too, but I cannot see how this would have the theatrical apeal as apose to Interlude and Modern art. I think this was a step in the backwards direction. Jim is still a genius in my eyes, the above is just from a personal opinion. |

I like it just as it is. Nothing wrong with legs shape.
Instead of comparing it to Zig-Zag or Modern Art, I find more similarities to other VERY well known Steimeyer's Illusion. |

We have to keep in mind that in a real work situation, the audience sees an act. They have a visual impact and the rest is work for their mind. They see something and according to the visual information they make a mental picture of it. As they don´t see a photograph but a dynamic performance, it's more difficult for them without enough time to figure it out. We are now judging a picture.

The reason that the simplest "segue" pieces sometimes have the greatest impact is that they help to tie the rest of the act together. I'm not saying that this is a segue piece but, as part of an act, it could be very effective.
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

I believe Mr. Steinmeyer has fooled you all.
This prop is TINY. The picture isn't giving it's relative size justice. What I think we can all agree on here is, the only person with hands on experience with this prop is Craig Dickens. The rest of your are just "guessing" as to method. I have yet to see Jim release a stand alone trick that isn't top notch. This is no exception. In the photo there is no size comparison. The design literally hugs the assistants body from hips down. If this thread were open to people who had seen it live there would be only one comment. Just sayin. J |

Trouble was part of his book Technique and Understanding... I wouldn't consider it a stand alone release. Have you seen this effect live Rudy?
