Welcome to the Café Josh. I am a college student myself and I understand how difficult it is to juggle everything. Thank you and I am looking forward to see what I can learn from you.

Josh,
Unfortunately lecturers don't always get the chance to hear the "after the lecture" comments. You recently lectured for IBM 216 in San Jose and I must say that the comments and buzz at the next meeting was positive. Many of the members were working on various items you showcased, including but not limited to Troy Hoosiers Chinese coin and ribbon routine, various card moves and routines of your own, and the 4 sides routine. I've also enjoyed working my way through your book and have found several elements and ideas I'll be adding to my own material. Again, thanks for the great lecture. As a side note, I'm wondering if it's possible to purchase your card cases directly? For some reason you site isn't working with Safari. John Bodine |

Hello everyone,
Wow! So many names I recognize and lots of new names I'm looking forward to getting to know as the week moves on. Thank you to all who commented so kindly. Here's a quick run-through of this week and how it will work on my end. As many of you know, I'm a full time student at Ohio State University. I’m taking 20 credit hours (with an emphasis on Victorian Lit. this quarter…so you can tell how much fun I’m having from 8:30-4 every day). So, I’ll be juggling my time here with my time at school. I will do my best to answer and discuss things once a day, for as long as it takes. I’ll check the board each day and respond to the best of my abilities. I’m looking forward to talking about a variety of issues. I’m curious as to what people want to know, and I’m even hoping certain issues will be brought up. But…along with that, I thought I would overcome a few objections before they arise. Steve Brooks is a friend and I want to do my best to uphold his message board as an exchange of information. While I greatly appreciate all the inquiries to my product line, please email me personally about pricing, ordering, website, etc. I don’t want anyone to have to suffer through a “dealer ad” because that’s not why I’m supposed to be here. I’ll answer those personally. The other question I’ve been getting a lot concerns my role as trick editor at MAGIC. While I’m looking forward to talking about the column, tricks, the experience of writing it monthly, etc., I don’t think this is the place to entertain questions about specific tricks or creators I have rejected. Magicians seem to be very curious about whose tricks I have turned down and what big names I have turned away. I can’t wait to hear what you have to say and I want to thank you all for welcoming me so kindly. Talk to you soon, Joshua Jay |

Welcome to the Café!
Thanks for sharing your time with us, especially since you are in school 8:30 to 4:00 every day. That is quite a busy schedule for college!

Welcome Josh.
I was at the lecture you did a couple of years ago at Andrew Wimhurst's house in Canberra....absolutely brilliant it was. You probably don't remember but I was the guy that came up to you after the show and asked you to show me the disappearing paint brush effect. Have you any plans of coming back to Australia? |

Wow! So many old friends! Hi Shadow, Dave, and everyone. I remember Canberra well--Andrew Wimhurst is fantastic gambling expert and great at the harmonica to boot. I have no immediate plans of returning to Australia, though I would love to. I do, however, want to get back to Vanuatu, three hours off the coast in the south pacific, as soon as possible--that could easily be my favorite spot in the world magic has taken me: it's a collection of 80 islands. The largest island, Port Villa, has a magic-themed bar owned by a magician. I had the pleasure of working there for a week, exploring during the day and performing at night...it was heaven.
Dave Womach and I spent time together this summer when I lectured in Spokane. He read my column on personalized playing cards and got his own made up. This, I suspect, would be an interesting topic to explore, and Dave is now able to give feedback on his results as well. Someone should start a thread... Thanks everyone for all the nice comments, Josh |
