Can YOU imagine a star with YOUR name on it permanently installed in the sidewalks of Colon, Michigan - The Magic Capital Of The World? Yes, it could be a possibility - a real one - I have received permission to begin preliminary investigation from the village council of Colon, Michigan to have our own MAGICAL WALK OF FAME installed in the downtown sidewalks of Colon.
As chairman of the Downtown Development Authority I can assure you our entire TEAM is very excited about the possibilities - we are working on costs, etc and will keep you up to date on our findings - so another reason to stay tuned to Riley's Blog! Another reason to come visit THE Magic Capital Of The World We have found a source to make these stars and are looking forward to the next step. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at: sales@fabmagic.com |

I'd like to have the "Roger Magic Bus" named star near a Colon business doorway rather than having on it my prior stage name of "Doormat the Magician" (because everybody used to walk out on me). I see this as a great way to have one's name stomped on with no negative ramifications. I just don't want my star too close to Curly's-that's where all the spitting on the sidewalk occurs I've been told. This idea sure 100% beats the lame idea of having a star someplace in the galaxy named after oneself. Probably more appropiate is putting my star right next to one of the Colon fire hydrants- so for the local folks walking their dogs... you know... what happens next. I think the demand for this could be great- especially if one is able to buy their own star (like myself) rather than be elected/approved to have one by some stuffy committee that might require actual talent and experience first before being awarded a star. Phooey- I have a brick at The Big House already in Ann Arbor- it brings a smile to my face knowing I am getting stepped on for before every UM home game.
Seriously Rick- this is a great idea- and could become part of a wonderful walk down "memory lane". Anyone (in my view) who goes to the trouble and cost of having their own star placed in Colon deserves one- and it would be an honor to be considered for one no matter how it costs or how it could be obtained. For many of us, Colon holds a special place of fond memories in our hearts- some of us have been stopping by now for over 50 years. |

Hi Roger..no spittin' allowed --- we have good preliminary response so far and keep your fingers crossed..it looks like it should work out okay. New banners are being installed downtown just before the 4th of July which will really dress our town up! Fortunately, we have a group of individuals who are 'team' oriented and ready to move this town forward - it is a fun an exciting time here in Colon and we believe things will only get better for the town and of course MAGIC!

Are their some people who will not be allowed to buy a star? For example, The Masked Magician or a certain dealer in the New England region.

Yes it is an honor and so much fun to see Colon move forward! It is an exciting time to be in the magic capital of the world. Well, Larry....we actually are working on a list of magicians who we want to be honored first...and foremost - magicians that made a significant contribution to magic that lived here in Colon.

Rick- had a GREAT time in Colon Saturday! Saw a very well done mini-show at 1PM with Gordon "Mike" Miller over at Abbott's, bought a few things, then saw the fantastic new estate stuff you got in over at FAB Magic. Love the Switcheroo Bag I got from you, works perfect with the Appearing Shovel prediction (available from Stevens Magic). The Jack Gywnne invented Temple of Benares you picked up literally did not have a single scratch on it- looked like it was made yesterday. The heavy duty canvas covered box you have is so cool (complete with ungimicked display model)- it took 4 magicians 15 minutes of looking just to discover the secret! Amazing workmanship. And... I did drive over for the BBQ at the old "Dairy Queen" (excellent) and saw that both the high school and elementary school remodels well underway. The entrance to the Colon High School is now totally redone- very nice! See you all in Colon in August!

Interesting how the feelings about this idea - are all Negative on the Genii Forum.
(Can't wait to see "Be Bop The Magic Clown" get a star...just because he has $1,275 in his wallet). |

It seems some of the folks on Genii forum have missed the point entirely...just because you have $1275.00 to shell out doesn't qualify you to have a star..here is my reply on Genii forum...perhaps folks should funnel that negativity into something positive..I know we are
"Quite the contrary. We are initiating the Walk of Fame to honor those who have made significant contributions to the art of magic in Colon. We do have a criteria and our DDA board will make determination by the application if they can have a star. Money is NOT the object here...you have missed the point entirely. For over 80 years Colon has been synonomous with magic and those individuals that helped build on that name - it's time to honor those individuals. That is what this is for...not a 'stunt' - yes, it will encourage folks to come to Colon - magic is our identity and we intend to keep it that way." |
