What books and authors do you tend to read and reread?
Who was your favorite past and present time magician? Thanks again for your time!

I read "To Kill A Mockingbird" every year. Love it.
Magic books, I was easily influenced the most by the Roth book, Expert Coin Technique and have performed almost every trick in the book. Also, Gary Kurtz' book and style influenced me too (I'm sorry he's not really into coin magic anymore). Impossibilia by Bannon and Out of Control, by Kenner were books I used to pour over. The Schulien and Fechter books also really influenced me - I just think these guys were totally cool and in their element. I like their stories too. I also take out and re-read the Germain the Wizard book every so often. Germaine was so far ahead of the pack with his style, methods and effects and then he was tragically struck down with blindness in the prime of his life. I've also been heavily influenced by all the card magic books by Darwin Ortiz - really great plots and strong effects. Other than some of the truly technical gambling routines, I've almost performed all of his material too, at one time or another. Just a smidgen of books I read. I do read a lot but those are the big ones. I kind of go through phases, like most of us do. I really like the original Carney book, the Bertram books, and the Tommy Wonder books too. I have all of Aronson's books and use the m-deck a lot at the bar and in my one hour show. So, that's a sample anyway . . . |
