Dear Doug,
You say you perform behind the bar, and yet, you are not a bartender. How does that work? Do you have set show times behind the bar? Are you doing tables in between? Or are you constantly behind the bar performing? I'm confused. Joe the Bar Magician.

I should have been more detailed - I work in front of the bar . . . you know, sitting on the stool with the glass of scotch in my hand. If I don't fall off my stool it's been a magical night and everyone applauds. They yell "NORM!" even though my name's Doug, but only when I leave, so it's a little confusing.
To be completely honest, I work sort of like Doc Eason and not Scotty York. I do sets behind the bar when the feel is right and there's a crowd ready to be "magished". The establishment has built a little shelf behind the bar for me to store my stuff so I can keep some of the bigger items, like my Blaney Levetation, ready to go when a crowd has built up. [all of this is true except the Blaney Levitation part and the me sitting on a stool part, and the Norm part - I don't own a Blaney Levitation, but please give me yours if you don't want it] |

Gee, Doug, I always thought of you as a great magician bar-none.

Almost two years ago Marlana and I were on a horse drive in Idaho where we met two women from Aberdeen; they'd brought a bottle of Tormore that was fabulous! (I'm waiting to get a bottle of Old Pulteney 21-year-old; I missed it yesterday.) However, when next we meet, remind me and I'll happily buy you a round of Glenfiddich. |

Ah, nice! But I'm open to experimentation - I've had Macallan, but not the others.
For my last hurrah at the Castle last night, I had over $100 on my posi-card (to buy food) and since I was done for the week, I asked for the most expensive whiskey on the shelf. She served me Johnny Walker Blue, neat. Now, I'm not a big drinker or anything, but this was one of the smoothest, finest whiskey's I've ever tasted. I wish I had a posi-card everytime I went up there! |
