I'm about the most un-partisan person on the planet. But I'll say this:
The arrogance of scientists absolutely amazes me. I don't think they have an iota of an idea regarding what effects human civilization has on the global environment. Not an iota. Take all of humanity, and all of humanity's gasses and wastes and whatever, and wrap it up into a single unit and put it up into the atmosphere, and imagine what might happen. Could anyone tell me? No. I've said again and again and again that intelligence is over-rated. It's over-rated because human beings seem to have so much hubris that they don't ever seem to grasp the concept of knowing what they don't know. They get so smart that they start making pronouncements of truth: there is God, there is no God, Global Warming is true, Global Warming is untrue, women are inferior, women are superior, candy cigarettes cause memory loss...whatever. And it takes a drunken philosopher like me to say: human beings know diddly about the future of the earth's atmosphere. It's one of those Emperor's New Clothes situations. We don't know squat, be we think we do. And we religiously and politically take sides according to our private faiths, but no one really KNOWS what effects human civilization has had or will have on the Earth's atmosphere. Period. WE DON'T KNOW! (Shut up, Jeff, and have another beer. Ah...it's noon here in Germany. I'm sucking down my day drink: coffee. OK then, shut up, Jeff, and have another coffee. OK. I'll shut up now.) |

Jeff that has been my point from the start. We have passed so many of the Al Gore doomsday scenarios and manage to keep on keepin on. Heck England was supposedly going to be gone to famines according to a silly population scare book and despite their insistence on existing environmental groups still recommend that book.
I object to the tactics on BOTH sides of fear mongering and then accuse the other side of it. Then the blind support just because ideology is the same. Now go ahead call me partisan.

Here is another thing, you call me a "denier" then you get called a hoaxer. Simple. The fact remains that there is legitimate disagreement on the issue at hand. I appreciate Stoneys input and also Bob's last thoughts! I got a very bad meeting today and tomorrow. We in trouble here and the heavies are coming in!

I think I must be one of the few here who actually admits having a partisan bias.

Actually you denied it for a while.
Everyone has a bias Bob. Yours happens to be partisan and ideological. It is rare that you ever find fault with liberals. Quite the contrary you spin to defend them. I for one was quite outspoken against many republican ideas. But you are entrenched in ideology. Nothing wrong with that, but you can't deny it can you?

Seriously, I do have very specific views on most political and scientific issues. But there simply isn't any organization or political party which has a similar point of view. No one shares my agenda. So while I am indeed biased, my bias isn't--strictly speaking--partisan at all. My views are all over the place. If you try to pin me down, I squirm and squirm. Still, I stand by my comments above. |

Jeff-
Well wouldn't that make you a partisan to your own original agenda? I appreciate the comments you made earlier and understand them. I just think that scientists deserve just a wee bit more credit than you appear to be willing to give them. (The fact that they were responsible for the technology that allows us to actually SEE man-made pollution on earth from outer space is kind of impressive, don't you think?) I don't have an alcohol problem, though. I drink and eventually pass out. No problem. Best- Bob |

The philosophers I've met, OTOH, are all convinced that God does not exist.

Me and my friends Bill and Rufus met Socrates when we flew back in time in a telephone booth.

I'd say it's about 70-30 theists vs. non-theists. I've attended as a guest a few times. Interesting discussions on a number of topics, such as ethics, free will vs. determinism, epistemology, etc.
