Sleight of mind?? Tongue foo? At coin jams(or over the phone), I sometimes predict how much actual spending coinage is in a coingician's pocket. Harris

Interesting puzzle. One thing I have always liked about seeing coin magic performed is how visual and substantial it is. The coins are "obviously" real (spectators can't imagine a gaffed coin), they make noise and they have heft, often in the spectator's own hand. But I guess there is always room for some coin magic that is more cerebral and less slight of hand (sorry Marion, but maybe just a few). :spinningcoin: Alan |

Wooo! Hit me up, Slim! I've also been wanted to be Roshambo'd for a long time. And being a total Coin Fan-Boy I'm up for coin magic any way I can get it!

Slim, I'm feeling rather unimaginative right now. Are your phone effects:
-Guessing dates -Guessing amout of change -Guessing specific types of coins -Heads or Tails??? Since I find Coin Magic very physical, visual and auditory, I have no clue about the nature of your effects using a phone. Please enlighten!

After arousing much curiosity, this discussion went nowhere.
Can't it be re-opened? |

Once while talking to a so called mentalist over the phone, he asked me: Sunny, you are watching AXN now. Right?
I said No, the TV is off now. Then he asked me... Do you have a purse with you? I said yes. He told me to count the number of coins in my purse. I counted. He asked me: You have 8 coins in your purse. Right? I said "No".Because I had 12 coins. He disconnected the phone immediately. I wonder if anyone can predict the number of coins a caller is having with him at any point of time. |

There's a coin piece in Mark Elsdon's Conversation as Mentalism (vol 1) that can be done over the phone.

Here is one that has been published several times:
Have them gather a stack of several coins, say 20 to 25 coins. Then, have them count out pairs out loud as they set them aside. They are to stop when you say "stop". You stop them on an odd number. You ask them to take each pair, one at a time and separate the two coins into two piles, like two teams. Once they have done that, you ask them to identify the two piles as team one and team two. Then, ask them to name one of the teams. Let's say they pick team number 2. Have them take one extra coin and to place it on the pile of the team they selected, in this case, team 2. Then, ask for a few seconds of silence. Ask them to place their hand on the team 2 pile. Pause a few seconds. Ask them to lift their hand and place it on the team 1 pile. Pause a few seconds. Say: "OK, it's done." Then, ask them to pull two coins from pile 2, then two from pile 1, then two coins from pile 2, and so on and so forth until only one odd coin is left. The odd coin has moved from the team 2 to team 1 pile. Some of you magicians may have figured this out in your head, but when a layperson sees it, or experiences it, human psychology will cause them to be baffled by it. If you do it in person, first you do it, then have them do it. They will be baffled both times. Of course, it can be done with any small items, such as paperclips, toothpicks, sugar packets, etc. KJ |
