Hi everyone
I’m looking to purchase a smallish change bag, I’m looking for something that looks completely innocent....I want to use it for word smyth by Francis minoti so it has to be big enough to hold seven thin scrabble tiles. I would really appreciate it if anyone can point me in the right direction Thank you |

Hello Ace! (We're rather casual here, so I used your 'given' name!
BTW, You speak good English (for a foreigner!) Now that the "amenities" are taken care of, I'll get on with my "sermon" on "RED VELVET BAGS ON A STICK"!!!!!!!! I had one (a P&L!) as a teen ager in the '40s! (Egad!, I think We were still one on King George III's colonies, then!) For you (even though you may not NEED it) and, any other new guys or gals, may I offer a bit of history? (I hope so, 'cuz I'm gonna do it, anyway................ Many churches, years ago (a few still do) used a little cloth bag with a handle, to facilitate taking up the offering during church services. (25 years ago, I went to see Andre Kole's show in a church in California. At the intermission, they used "change bags" to take up a collection. Instead of a long handle, the bags had two spherical knobs, at diametrically opposite sides of the "rim" to make it easier to pass the bag. About a century ago (!!!) a magic dealer, with an "eye" on a $ or a pound sterling, realized that a church bag could be "adapted" to vanish, produce, or change "small things". It became an easy "upsell" to an amateur magician (and, some unskilled or lazy professionals!). Since then, many "improvements" have been made. --Little tassels have been added. Velvet became the fabric of choice. RED became the "standard" color. ETC. Some prop maker even made a "HOKEY" looking "PURSE" to change silks for a parasol cover! It was an "awful" looking thing! As a kid, I read Tarbell, and, Henry Hay, and, realized that a change bag was rather anachronistic. Besides! It looked like a "magic bag" (a magician's prop!) I "deep sixed" (old Navy term) mine. A few years ago, the late "Gen" Grant started selling a "tote bag". It was a simple cloth bag with a draw string closure, --and, relatively inexpensive! (When I bought an Abbott Mutilated Parasol, I dumped the "purse" and used a "tote". For the kids, (I did the parasol, for young audiences.)I called it "my old marble bag". The "parasol" was used in a "show and tell" routine. It was perfectly "innocent". I would recommend that you buy or make a small drawstring bag, just big enough for the props you are using in your trick (Egad! I used "that word" for a mental "experiment"! The bag should be plain, without tassels, or sequins (!!!) and, not obviously a prop. The "tote" bag is SIMPLE TO MAKE. --Anyone who can use a sewing machine could make one! (For heaven's sake, don't tell any magic dealers that I said that! I fully realize that I may have "ruffled a few feathers", but, you asked for an opinion, and I've given you mine!
