I agree David...the visual aspect of a flipper is what makes it a great gaff to own!

The TUC is a wonderful gaff (i have practiced with it before) but it has its pros and cons as well. For the TUC guys who have no experience using a flipper to its maximum potential, I would highly recommend they buy and review Eric jones and homer liwag's DVDs. It will open their eyes.
:) Peter, this is why I asked what the end goal is. there are so many gaffs out there and they all have their pros and cons. Good luck experimenting with the standard flipper. If you have any questions, give me a call anytime. :)

Don't feel bad Mike. Calvin called me Jumbo Coin on one thread. He's bad with names, but luckily does remember faces.

That was because Ken was bragging that his jumbo Penny was bigger than mine.

I highly recommend the Next Generation Gravity Flipper by Bob Swadling. I live in Florida and the Florida heat would cause the rubber bands in my old Flipper coins to either weaken and snap or get all gummed-up in the track. That won't happen with this NGF. It is the most reliable Flipper I've ever owned. Works like a dream - every time. I've had mine for a year now and with regular use and regular exposure to the Florida heat, no repairs have had to be made. When I first got it, I took it apart to see if I could get it back together as quickly as the claims say. ...I did.
If you're going to get a Flipper coin, it would behoove you to acquire the most reliable one on the market - and you would also be buying it from the inventor of the Flipper coin, (Bob Swadling). Seriously - worth every penny. Highly recommended. |

I'm currently researching what flippers are available. Certainly many to choose from...
Simple question (I hope). I've made an "educated guess" based on a few flipper threads that I've read that the NGF from JB Magic (Mason/Swadling) uses an EXTERNAL mechanism (which to me means there will be a visible external groove). Am I right on that? (As opposed to an INTERNAL mechanism like a SchoolCraft.) Thanks for any help. -Paul |

I want to publicly thank POOF-DADDY for a very helpful private message about this question.
He helped my separate the collector in me (I'm 99% collector, 1% amature performer, but have an intermediate level knowledge of magic in general) from the "wanna be at least an amateur performer" in me. He gave me some great "newbie" performer advice! Thank you POOF! Having said that, any further comments/responses to my question are GREATLY appreciated! |

Upon further review (re-reading,) I see I may need to clarify my question a bit further: By "external groove" I am referring to the circumference of the coin (the milled edge of the coin). Can you SEE a groove on that edge of a JB (Mason) NGF Flipper?
I could still use more feedback on this if anyone cares to chime in. Again, many thanks. |

Hello again flying lizard dude!
For the NGFs, or any external groove flipper, you can always 'see' the groove. But in comparison to other flippers, the groove is relatively thinner and less detectable in combination with the clear elastic thingy-ma-bober used to connect the two pieces. Also one more thing you should probably know about the NGF is that the smaller flippy piece is SUPER glued to the unexpanded shell. You need to do some threading work to get that larger piece on if anything ever happens. Back on topic about the groove, the only thing I dislike about the NGF's groove/edge is that its too shinny and doesn't match the coins (especially walking liberties which are darker and aged). Its just a bit odd in my opinion, but I guess some handling and nice hand oils will dull it down. |

The NGF in my Triception set has an "external" groove that can be seen on the edge.
