For the record, I am largely in agreement with your POV. It was what I considered to be an insult to the experience and insight of others on this board that I was pointing out. You suggested that all that needed to be said had been said. I was of a different opinion. These boards are open to all to comment on any topic that is brought here. Based on critter's comments, I think he saw the same issue that I did. If I misinterpreted your statement, it was not my intent, nor was it to litter the path. Those who know me, know that when I feel a need to elaborate, I usually do. You implied the thread should be locked and nothing more should be said. I disagreed, nothing more.

Did anyone watch the whole thing (or a lot of it)? There were several big names in the lineup. Was there nothing redeeming about the broadcast?

I had heard Banachek was going to perform and I watched that. He was, as expected, wonderful.

Having seen very little of the broadcast in question, I cannot comment on its entirety. But, in regard to an address to what I assume is being pointed to as a decline in the realm of good taste, I can't say I disagree.
To offer another example, this ad was in my email inbox today. I was somewhat dismayed when I saw it, and that was before I even stumbled upon this thread. (Reference the 1st ad) For the record, I did not watch the demo. But the ad was, in my opinion, gratuitous garbage. ------Link to site and obscenity laced trailer removed------

Michael, I know I am getting on in years, but I agree with you. I found it on par with all the trash "bleep shows" that have taken over television these days. There might be something in there worth performing, but it is not worth stooping to that level to see.

Get ready, it'll be this decade's meme.

I think Steve Brooks got snookered. The first Magic Place live launch was well done and had none of the frat party atmosphere this last one had. It was a calm, poolside get together.
The second party was Animal House, without the charm and humor. Steve couldn't have known they'd go all "gangtsa rap". |

Respect, gentlemen? Can we respect others expressing their opinions here? I chose NOT to view the latest CA fiasco, even though advertised here in the Forum. It appears I was correct about the party atmosphere. Still prefer a good old-fashion magic show.
Maybe, with my opinion, I'm a magician helping magicians in that regard.

I was going to let this thread meet a slow and silent demise. However, I just received a heated and unsolicited phone call from someone purporting to be Kevin Wisch. In that phone call he asked that I withdraw from participating in this thread and then went on to tell me how wrong I was in my original comment. And why was I "wrong"? Because, according to Kevin, I quoted mud-wrestling instead of jello-wrestling. When I continued to suggest that he support his opinions on facts instead of shouting down others ... he hung up on me! Very professional. Thank you again for showing me your true colors.

I didn't say I have better things to do than commenting on the Café. The Café can be a wonderful place for those who respect the opinions of others and are willing to share their experiences. I have been contributing here for years and, hopefully, I have earned respect through my actions. None of those actions have ever included senseless sarcasm or harassment of others.

Now, I again bid this thread "adieu" and goodbye to you as well, Kent. |

Mud wrestling I've seen.
Jello wrestling?

Quoting a familiar saying, “people don’t mind being fooled as long as they are being fooled by a gentleman”, I see a quandary in agreeing with a point of view when it is delivered by someone that you find irritatingly snarkish.

Gentlemen;
PM's please. You're rather proving the point of the thread title. Is this *honestly* worth the anger and hostility? Is that not one of the things that is tearing the magic community apart? Reasoned discourse has no place for personal attacks. Save that for the jello-wrestling pit.

Well, my respect for one fellow magi in particular went down considerably due to his tempermental outbursts.
Never knew he was so childish.
