Of course, none of Howard's advice applies to himself. He can chatter on for hours on his show with no point, little preparation, and close to zero comedy (unless you are into old fart recycled bodily function hick sexist jokes). His idea of entertainment is to tell his guests to disrobe. Big whoop. Any live stage show he has ever been active with involved using other people's actual talent. He acts as a music critic- even though he is not a musician, producer, or DJ on a music show. To me he is a sick dark unqualified clown who appeals to the prurient interests of his immature listeners. I would suggest replacing Howard with a blow up doll- that would more accurately reflect his real interests and expertise.

Some acts don't belong on that show simply because they can't (and should not) conform to the format. That's exactly right. And I'm pretty sure none of the acts are there at gunpoint. The show is what it is. It's been on the air for around 5 years now. I can't believe than anyone who is going on there doesn't know how the show works in general. And I don't know why people are still blaming the show format when an act falls flat. So they didn't like the magic show, don't get all butthurt about it. |

I have absolutely no problem with any magician doing "stock" effects. I do them. But I am not being reviewed in those public situations by "judges" who by the nature of the term being used are somehow qualified to be tv "judges." In the case of critics like Howard Stern, my point is that my next door neighbor who is active in community theatre is more qualified than that blowhard. Ratings I know, ratings...

By the way, never have I tried to defend the magic acts on AGT or discussed their merits (or lack thereof). I just enjoy commenting on Howard Stern who may be rich and opinionated but should be listed in Webster's under "Butthead" e.g. "see Howard Stern-an obnoxious creature who by his very existence defines the decline of rational civilization and organized thought." I'm cool with Howie and Sharon.

Now that he's not involved with this show maybe he'll have time to send everyone the lecture notes they paid for which he's been promising for two years.

Howard Stern KNOWS show business. You may not like him, but he's had The # radio show, best selling books and a mega grossing, hit film.
He happens to LOVE magic and likes magicians. When the season started he stated that he felt a magician could win. Some may not like him, his show, etc. but he knows what he's talking about. |

Zombie Magic...I was going to say something similar. I am no fan of Howard Stern...howevere, Howard is a big fan of magic. Even on his show...when it was good, he raved about it. When it was bad...he busted them. It was pretty fair.
What gets forgotten here, is that when you go on AGT or any television...you have to put on your big boy underware. Magicians love to whine to each other...its not fair or they can't appreciate the awesomness of wonder...but in reality... audiences do not like cheesy, over done, and under practiced magic. And when you act does not play, then shut up and come back with something better. Right now some losers are whining on facebook about their dressing down on AGT. Hey...everyone gets bad reviews now and then...grow up. |

I agree about Howard. He does know show business. Most people that are a commercial success in radio are so because they understand the masses, what hits and plays well with them, and can easily identify and understand pop culture. Howard, whether you like him or not is an excellent judge, and is far less "nasty" that Piers Morgan who he replaced. He's far more gentle with kids and terrible performers, except than those that should know better or are a waste of time (like the red suited air-guitarist, etc. - what a joke). I find that usually the people Howard calls out as a waste or BS is exactly what most viewers and audience members also feel.
The point about Rudy is really plain and simple, whether you know him, have seen him before, like him or not - they are in the semi-finals of a $1,000,000 competition. Rudy's performance might (possibly) have gotten him through the audition round (I still didn't think it was even that good, and surely not a mass-appeal, riveting performance), but it absolutely, most definitely was not anywhere near a million-dollar-worthy performance. I also bet if you asked Rudy himself, and he was completely honest, he too would say the same thing. Vegas is the entertainment capital or the world. Multi-millions are spend on these performances. It is big business for the venue. Just to advertise and promote a single show can often run hundreds of thousands of dollars per month. Maybe very few here can understand this. I know it may be hard, but just for a minute imagine that you had a million dollars and had to select one performer to put it all into in the hope of a return. Would you pick Rudy based on this performance? No. This is also why these dance groups, young kid singers, and oddball performers (can't remember his name, but the big afro guy that sang t.v. themes and crooner songs) will all eventually get eliminated, because they are not Vegas-worthy for anyone to back financially. It's business, plain and simple. For those of us that don't know Rudy, his performance was our first impression, which wasn't very favorable. As opposed to others first impression performances in the past such as Murray, Kevin James and others. It's all about money and true perspective. |

How are you dealing with the heat in Vegas MP? |

Been recovering INDOORS from an accident while on tour recently. Only go outside to hit the pool and spa for a few then back indoors. You gotta love Vegas in July & August. Not bad today, it's only 111 degrees...but it's still early.

I do nothing that offends people, and I WILL NOT lie to get ratings! Talking trash and sex is "in" today. I guess it's a good thing I'm retired... Doug |

Vegas magic numbs you to the impossibilities of the impossible, as it all becomes a fast-pitched, predictable tedium. Walk out with a straight-jacket hanging from your arm, and I know the act, the whole act and it's finish. Show me an empty box and dance around while you rotate it, and I know what's going to happen. The audience has had such an exposure to LV illusions, that slamming one down is no longer amazing, they're just clever at best.
At any rate, maybe now Coby will have time to go to the Post Office. (Although, by now, his distain for his peers and customers is apparent, as well as his ethics.)

This really makes me sick. Sharon just showed her ass. What a mindless thing to say! Howard Stern is just doing his schtick, you can see that. He can't even say it straight! A complete set-up!
And Rudy? Disdain for his customers? After coming forward and apologizing and promising to make good? Any further delay will prove he has no ethics... Doug |

Ya know...I'm beginning to see a pattern here. AGT gave Puck the highest honors for a simple Asrah levitation. Stern had to know the hankerchief he signed had to be rigged...see how he held it down? It was praise, praise praise for Puck...as should be...but what about Rudy?
Sharon called him a "YouTube magician". That was a direct insult and slam at Rudy's unique style and persona. I have a feeling there is more here than we're told. Howard didn't like him, and neither did Sharon. Why?? They had him pegged before he ever got on! Something behind the scenes perhaps? Callin' it like I see it, friends! Doug |

Come on now......they gave Puck high praise for his asrah, but didn't like Jonathan Hawley and his double levitation......If you ask me, Hawley's performance was more magical. Howard didn't like that Hawley didn't use the "hoop" to show there was no wires, but neither did Puck. I am not saying that Puck's was bad in any way shape or form, but he got praised for a similiar illusion that hawley got ripped for. It is obviously not legit.

You're right...Puck didn't use a hoop! That's what was missing! And what the deal with AGT is...we may never know. Rudy did NOT get a fair shake in my opinion. Why anyone would be excited to be treated that way on National Television is beyond me. A glorified Gong Show, again, in my opinion.
