Why?
They have their own Shows already...

Because they are getting paid to go on there.
The show is fake. |

Even if they are not being paid I beleive TV psycologically puts you in a different, much more respected catagory. We could debate whether or not that should be so, but it is true.
Many top musicians will make an appearance on Good Morning America and other talk shows because its great publicity! Do you think Paul McCartny performed for the Olympics because he needed the work?

For the reference, additional market (national) exposure, name or face recognition, and to add an extra 0 to their fee (and get it).

If they are American, and they have talent, why shouldn't they be on AGT? The show doesn't advertise itself as an amatuer talent search. AGT have been known to call in certain talent to be on the show, but the goal of the show is to bring in as many viewers as they can. The more people watching the show, the more they can charge their advertisers. This means they have to provide a quality show that people will want to watch. For this to happen, some control has to happen. This control over a show may look like the show is fixed, but it's no different that any other show.
The producers of the show probally know that they can attract more viewers, especially those of us who perform magic as a hobby or as a profession. By bringing in a name we are familiar with doesn't mean that the rest of America know who they are. Not everyone travels to Vegas. Although their names are recognizable to our small community, I think most others will not know who they are. Why turn down a shot for t.v exposure where you can reach millions of homes in a single performance? The publicity one gets must be excellent. I could only hope to have something like that on my resume.

Right on the money Randi. In fact, I sold a Water fountain production to a guy and I had him sign a release that he did not have the right to expose it intentionally or otherwise just because of AGT. I have seen too many blooper reels to let my product be exposure coast to coast and over the net.

Wow, the 8-15-2012 version of AGT (which I am watching right now at 8:46pm EST) is kinda brutal so far on magicians... ouch. Brutal on just about everyone actually come to think of it. Kinda difficult to watch acts that have been seen before in other contexts prosper yet bomb tonight on AGT.

The dancing folks with the skeleton heads were pretty cool though...

Having actual amateur magicians compete against The Pendragons, Rudy Coby, kevin james, nathan Burton, and Brett Daniels seems so wrong. It seems they'd have a leg up.

Big name? Copperfield is a big name. He won't be on the show competing. lol.
Anyone else may or may not be a big name in the magic community. They vet to make a promo vid for marketing purposes no matter what happens. Kevin James can you tell you how legitimate the whole process is. |

Its so obvious to me that the show is a BIG FAKE that Stevie Wonder could see though it.

It's so fake yet magicians keep going on there. What does that say about your fellow magicians who have appeared on AGT? They must be part of the big fake since they got paid to appear on AGT.

Zombie is pretty much. Not everyone is a big name. I consider Rudt to be the only real 'star' to be on. Not because the Pendragons and a couple others are less of perormers but Rudy has had his own TV show, a good one, is a true artist, but has been off the radar while working with Manson. His big problem was he couldn't establish his character. Puck was good and I don't think his performance wasn't good for the stage, it is just a monster stage. Daniels is a great classical magician but could boar a brick. Non names like Magic Mike, I forget hiss new magic name, blew it while Scott shined. My little friend from Miami was gawdawful and tht was his best. Strange show.
I would love to see Kalin and Jinger on there, they know how to work a big stage. |

Kevin James was a big time American magician before he went on TV. He now travels the world and gets much bigger fee's.
