OK James, how is the Flushtration Count like a chrome thumbtip? What exactly did I post that was "recycled tripe", or am I just guilty of trying to join in on a discussion with only 16 posts?

A belated "Welcome" to the Café, ws! Or, do you prefer Mr. Gumby?
I have always struggled with magic that was toward the outrageous (stones, I think you called it), and yet I love the thought of pulling off a good one, which occasionally I have. I work with my grandson, we comprise "Generation Gap". We saw a demo of "Blizzard" together, and spent the rest of the evening trying to tease out how the hell it was done. Naturally, we ended up buying it. I found I simply could not do it with a straight face! He, one the other hand, had no problem including a bland expression and innocence personified. That taught me a lot! You are correct- given the right presentation, it is astounding what you can "get away with". I still prefer "bullet-proof" stuff, however. With Cooler, the only thing I am planning to do is a wrist-kill at the necessary moment. I just don't think it needs anything else- just the right off-beat and... done! Hopefully, I will have this down by thanksgiving! Thanks for your comments... Jim

I'm not buying it - the video demo, the 'pro' comments by those more well-versed than me, OR The Cooler itself.
I'm another who thought it looked a bit odd (from the video demo) and had to do a double take. It just didn't appear 'right' and smacked of, 'Whoa - something just happened. Dunno what - but something did!" And if I'm thinking that, I'm thinking that a spectator might think that too and maybe just be polite enough to not say anything. Haven't found anything better than Peter Scarlett's beautifully crafted wooden card box to date. (Reg deck on side - "No Comment" the other.) But not all switch utilities are perfect for different occasion. But it has to be an improvement on The Switcharoo! |

Hey Roger,
You understand that the "demo" is an exposed view, yes? It's meant to show you the workings of the switch. It's not meant to fool you. |

It's a rematch!
Joe came out trying to look all clever but with one swift 'verbal jab' followed by a 'cutting wit' left hook Barry put Joe to the canvas one more time. Joe is dazed and confused. He can't find his feet. Another one round wonder.

Now, now Jame!
Joe - all I was getting at is that I'm sure Roger is sharp enough to understand the clip. Fact remains that often, when working, you cannot misdirect everyone. To this end, I agree wholeheartedly with Roger's point. Due to the actual movement during the switch, something just looks a tad fishy. It just isn't clean enough - in MY view. Others may think differently. I'm not suggesting everyone would catch on exactly what you've done BUT if it plants the seed of 'something didn't look right there' in a spectator's mind, then you have an uphill struggle thereafter to gain optimum effect from whatever trick you are doing.

And by a thorough assimilation of this and the other thread, I'm guessing you are firmly on the 'for' side of the debate of this device - that looks like its one of those 'Marmite' items. (You either love it or you hate it.) Admittedly I don't own it (and never will) and therefore my opinion is of only what I saw and read from about half of the posts here and on the other thread. Mate, it looked awful and if I'm thinking it - so might one of my specs. But I do admire the 'honesty' of the dem. About time! Good luck to it and those who use it. But my spare £40 goes on another book and some close up mats. |

I wouldn't even say it requires misdirection, it only requires that they're not staring directly at the deck when it happens. But hey, not everything is for everyone, I get that. And I'm not getting a commission on these things so what the hell am I arguing for. Save your money! |

So I recently bought the cooler as well as the Chazpro deck shell to try with a certain Dean Dill effect (a very snowy one). I was hesitant given all of the negative comments on here as well as on penguin. But I figured it was worth the $ to have both and see for myself what works better for me. First, the Chazpro deck shell is incredibly well made and looks perfect. Great for other effects as well. Loved one of the routines on the DVD.
The Cooler took a little bit to get the hang of. I usually pick things up very quickly, and I almost gave up on it. So I understand why many may try and give up. But after an hour or so of practicing and trying different handlings, I got it. For me, I found that holding it by the short edges, the top and bottom, was preferable. The long edges, being made of plastic, bow in when grabbed and interefere with its operation. Grabbing by the short ends prevent this and make it much easier. I have performed BL#@@%$D for 8 different laymen / groups of laymen (children included) and there was no heat on the box. No one noticed anything unusual about it and it was right in front of them on a close-up mat. The switch went unnoticed each time, and smoothly 7 out of 8 times. Once I got careless and the cards got hung up slightly as I lifted, but even then I just continued lifting the case casually and squared the cards up and in in my hands, and it went unnoticed. No one was looking at the box at the time of the switch given the misdirection. So the bottom line is that I will be using the Cooler going forward. I think it's way cool and perfectly suited for BL#@@%$D. I found it to be less bold and less risky than the other methods. Thought I'd share my experience for those who might have been on the edge and been afraid to try given some of the reviews. |

I was looking for advise on which card box looks the most natural as the cooler. I do not like the look of the new bicycle boxes with the white edges. Please help.

If my memory serves me correctly, Christian prefers the bicycle decks with the gold border found across the pond. I've been using the decks found here in the US with white borders without any problems. NO ONE looks at the box! Seriously. Just did it ( Bl!$$ARD)again tonight with the cooler and one of the spectators said, "that's disturbing.............how is that possible?" Loving the cooler more and more every day. really getting the technique down now.
