It's interesting to see the Dan and Dave youtube video on springing the cards.

The first technique they demonstrate shows releasing the cards from the thumb. Then they demonstrate releasing the cards from the fingers. There was a discussion about which is better on the Café back in 2012:

A little later in the video they show the finger release technique.
My preference is to release from the thumb because the audience sees the faces of the cards going by. But I know a lot of people prefer the fingers release.
I don't think the spectators care either way. It's something magicians obsess over more than the lay public does.

I definitely recommend to start with xtreme beginnerz vol I,
then andrei jikh´s genesis and dan and dave´s trilogy.

I enjoyed the Showoff with Cards DVD.. anything with Ben Salinas. He is a very under-rated cardician and very easy to listen to..
