I've been doing some research on tricks that have similarities to or are variations of Brother John Hamman's The Signed Card and/or Larry Jennings The Mystery Card. So far, I've found the following:
“The Signed Card” by Brother John Hamman, The Secrets of Brother John Hamman “The Signed Card Strikes Back” by Michael Vincent (manuscript) “The Unsigned Card” by Steve Reynolds, Route 52 “The Mystery Card” by Larry Jennings, The Classic Magic of Larry Jennings “The Mystery Card” by John Carey, 24/7 DVD “Mystery Card to Pocket” by Richard Paddon, Apocalypse Vol. 20, No. 2, page 2755 “The Psychotronic Card” by Darwin Ortiz, Cardshark “Psychotronic Rides Again” by Paul Gordon, Nocturnal Creations “Psychotronic Rides Once More” by Paul Gordon, Professional Card Magic Miracles “Mysterious” by Jack Carpenter, Modus Operandi “Quantum Theory” by Jack Carpenter (same as Mysterious?) “The Twilight Zone” by Glenn Morphew (similar to Carpenter’s Mysterious with a more convincing vanish of the signed card) “Satyrical Card Signed” by Ed Marlo, That’s It (lecture notes) “Cart Before The Horse” by Helder Guimaraes, Ontology Project “Time and Space” by Justin Miller, DVD “Here There Everywhere” by John Guastaferro, Second Storm DVD “Mr E Takes a Stroll” by John Guastaferro, One Degree “Waiting for a Sign” by Tom Stone, Maelstrom “Sign of the Count” by Tom Stone, Maelstrom “Crossed Sign” by Tom Stone, Maelstrom “Encased” by David Forrrest, DVD “Exhibit A” by David Regal, Premise, Power, and Presentation DVD “Dream Autograph” by Jeff Sheridan, Genius at Work, Vol. 4 DVD “The Emergency Card” by Randy Wakeman, Randy Wakeman Presents “The Green Card” by Denis Behr, Handcrafted Magic 2 What other versions are worth exploring?

Two that come to mind immediately:
"Exhibit A" by David Regal from Volume 1 of his Premise, Power, and Participation DVD's from L & L. The DVD says the effect was previously published in Prenumbra, but I do not know if it is also in one of David's books "Heart of the City" by John Bannon from his Impossibilia DVD. This is a reworking of "Discrepancy City Prediction" from the Impossibilia book. A signed selection appears in a sealed envelope that is on the table from the start. It could just as easily be a mystery card, and the switch at the end is the same as Bro John's "signed card" switch.

I'm away from home so I can't access my library, but I reckon Harry Lorayne's The Phantom Card from Reputation Makers is a similar effect.

If Lawrence O sees this therad, most likely he can supply a wonderful, comprehensive list.

Dan Fleshman has a nice version on one of his Restuarant Magic DVD's from L&L. I cannot recall the name, but I know it's on Volume 2.

Based on the descriptions found on the L&L site, it looks like you're talking about Dan's effect "Some Prediction."

I'm surprised, that Alex Elmsley's classic effect "Between Your Palms" (1952) has not been mentioned yet. I always thought, this is the great predecessor of the mystery card plot. Anyway, Mr. Elmsley's routine is simply marvelous and leaves the audience in stunned silence. You'll find it in "The Collected Works of Alex Elmsley, Vol.2" along with two other amazing routines on the plot.
A slightly simplified version can be found in Frank Garcia's popular book "Super Subtle Card Miracles" under the title "Miracle Worker"... |

Shameless self promotion- You can check out my merging of the Mystery Card plot with a color changing deck in my book High Spots. It's called "Replicator."
You can also learn it for free by checking out my free online lecture here: http://themagicsession.com/featured/caleb-wiles-lecture Caleb

I have a routine called '1 Trick 2 Names' where the isolated card has a different colour back to the rest of the deck but still turns out to be the signed card. It was first published in my lecture notes "Jon Allen - The Director's Cut' and is also in my book 'Experience: The magic of Jon Allen'.

This has been one of my favorite plots since I first discovered it about 15 years ago. I used Jack Carpenter's Quantum Theory as a starting point for developing my own handling and script. So often when you take 2 effects and put them together you just get a mishmash that doesn't fit. Jack's combination of the signed card plus between your palms is beautiful. I have combined signed card and Dr. Daley's last trick and the script talks about the 3 greatest card tricks of all time.

I've got a routine of my own design that outwardly handles like the Jennings Mystery card, but the mystery card can be a different color back and be signed on the back by a spectator, ending with one spectator's signature on the face and a different one on the back. Plus I've come up with a new way to end the Mystery card where the spectator literally does the vanish at the end. Once I have the handling down to my satisfaction I may publish this effect so keep your ears peeled.

I heard from a friend that anecdotal evidence is actually quite reliable. |
