If it isn't obvious to you that I'm trying to help the OP, Ray, then that's your problem. And, if I wanted to be specific, I'd have done so. So draw your own conclusions - while you think of other memory jokes! (As you did in another thread. Are you going to "come in" whenever I post, Ray? Is that your new occupation?) Or - Why the post Ray?

Hi guys,

I am doing card magic for a few years now a I feel that I am pretty good, I can easily amaze any audiance.
My problem is that most of my magic consists of them picking a card or looking at one and I reveal it.
I want to learn something new. I do know 2 versions of OOTW that I use and of course I can do an ace production, but this is just producing the cards that I choose and not the audience, and that it.
Two things that are important to me:

1. no gaff card or gimmicks
2. an easy to get to set up (for example, getting the red and the black cards apart) or no set up at all

So if anyone can refer me to a book or DvD with this type of tricks I will be very thankful Smile

Alon

He was trying to help the OP by pointing him in the direction of Paul Harris' work...Is that a crime?
I noticed you were trying to help him by recommending your own books, which is excellent,as they are packed
with quality,hard hitting effects.
I just can't understand why you would ridicule someone for advocating the work of Paul Harris.
Please don't think I'm trolling you because I made a lighthearted aside in another thread. It won't happen again.
Ray.

Ray, I wasn't in any way putting down Paul Harris. It's the last paragraph of the post in question I do not think is of any help to a newcomer. If I had been advised to use gimmicks/stacks when I was first starting out MANY decades ago, I never would have accomplished whatever it is that I've accomplished. So, stating my opinion that something is NOT of help IS of help, in MY opinion. Is that a crime?! Sorry if I didn't explain properly.

As I think about it - it may be that using stacks/gimmicks early on may not be such a bad thing for many. It would teach presentation anyway. I was thinking individually, my experience, my background in close-up card magic. Guess that doesn't work for everyone.

Thank you all again, I'll check Lorayne's work for sure.

about stacked decks, I memorized Tamariz's mnemonica but after some time using it I realized it just...not me.
I also checked some other stacks...I just couldn't connect to this stuff...

Fair enough. Stack work is not for everyone. Some people like it and others don't. But I'm glad to hear that you're exploring all the options in addition to "from a shuffled deck" material.

I also share your interest finding non-pick-a-card plots to keep things interesting, so if you do end up finding some material that you particularly like, I'd love to hear what it is.
