Hello guys, I want to perform a card to impossible location, torn corner to be exact. What methods do you guys use to vanish the rest of the spectator card pieces before revealing the card with the missing piece? My dad is a clown is he has those vanishing bags but I'm looking for something much more organic not from a children show. On this video justin uses a handkerchief to achieve what I'm trying to do http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEL3rvEDxLU&sns=tw Also what resources can you reccomend me to learn signed card /dollar bill to impossible location type of effects? Thank you!

There's a lot of good methods in the books out there. What books have you read? Did anything in them look good to you? And what level of skills do you have? Me personally - I'd have to haev a change bag to do just about anything with cards! But I know people who vanish half a deck in front of your eyes and you'd never know it.
Also, please note that we generally don't discuss the actual methods and details here in the open forums. After you have 50 valid posts, you can enter the Secret Sessions rooms (that are not visible to you right now) and talk about anything openly. Ed |

As mentioned I don't know how skilled an knowledgable you or your father is in magic.
If I was starting fresh, I would buy the Intercessor by Kevin James and then find a routine I like. Your question is just to broad as it would take several pages to answer. Just an example, a card is handled differently then a a bill. Then you can have the card in an egg, orange, box, wallet, etc. The list is very long. For a bill it is the same plus a number of other endings. I can only suggest you do an extensive search on the Café, a good place to search is in the Stage, Platform, and Parlour heading, under the topic Boxes, Tubes, & Bags. Use the search engine on the Café within that topic. Also search Tricks and Effects Topic. That should keep you busy for several hours. Props to use for the vanish, is a hankerchief, magnetic card box, envelope, fire by burning a bill, etc. There is even very expensive and less expensive full routined effects for this, from books to DVDs. Some simple some complicated. After watching the video of Justin Willman, I would have to say that is one of the weakest methods for doing this type of trick. How about that, he did use the Intercessor and a Devil's Napkin. As Ellen pointed out, the weak point in this the method he chose. Looks like he did not do his reasearch as before creating this routine. |

Michael Ammar has an effect whereby a selected card has the corner torn off, the rest of the card is burned, but then the card is discovered in the card box, FROZEN IN A BLOCK OF ICE!! How's that for card to impossible location? Of course, the corners match.
You can learn this and many other great effects in his book The Magic of Michael Ammar. I believe it was also published in Apocalypse, April 1980 under the title "Frozen Deckery." |

Daniel Madison has a nice little effect where he tears the corner off a playing card, hands the card to the spectator, then slowly vanishes the corner using only his bare hands (sleeves rolled up) the corner is then found in an imposable location. It’s a great effect; my buddy does this all the time. Its pretty easy to do, and you end 100% clean.
The effect is called Angle Zero. You can buy it as a single trick download from Theory11. Or you can buy Daniel Madison's two DVD set which is packed with some other killer card magic.

Michael Ammar does have a unique twist to make a torn, chosen card to vanish (The Magic of Michael Ammar). My favorite method of redicovering the card, must be (Blaine-esque or is that Copperfield)...behind a window pane...restored, except for the missing corner.
Jon Tremaine made me realise the most simple method to do that. |

I still really like Tommy Wonder's Ambitious Card with ringbox ending. I keep trying to think of an improvement, but it's hard to think of any weaknesses.

If youre just trying to vanish the ripped pieces I say don't. burn them instead and then you get a crazy great reaction when you open the fruit the card is there and the corner matches. now if you want the card to be signed I suggest the imposible location be a wallet there are several vanishes you can do from there my favourate is losing the card in the deck then getting the spectator to go through the deck and they can't find it and that kind of misdirection allows you to load the card to pretty much anything and without even saying it you can creat the illusion of hands empty and in view the whole time. hope this helps.

Thank you! 2 DVD's I would like to suggest is chop by craig petty, and inception by Chris Randall they are both really great bill to lemon effects as well in the book "the art of magic" by t nelson downs there is a really great impromtu signed bill to lemon effect that I've been practicing haven't performed it yet but man I can see it packing a wallop because the method just seems even more impossible than the actual effect but at the same time it's stupidly simple. |
