Here is a trick that is currently being marketed:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=XnoYi-vb9JU#! It is difficult to believe that someone is packaging this up as an off-the-shelf trick. Who in their right mind would pay money for something like this? The effect is so simple to reproduce, based on the description of the effect alone, that there is no need to buy it. As one of the comments on that video says: "Kids, keep throwing your money at all these one-trick DVDs. Then as quickly as you can, upload your efforts to YouTube. Don't even bother to practise, and if you're feeling really generous, upload the reveal too. These DVDs and the people that buy them are really doing a great job in elevating the art of magic. Not." That comment is bang on. i.e "Kids, stop using your own imagination and get people to spoon-feed you with rubbish." There is a preponderance of this type of thing in magic today. |

I think my two least favourite phrases in magic are 'So, we'll lose your card in the deck' and 'Would you be surprised if X was Y?'. I mean really, it's pretty obvious what you're doing when you put their card in and suffle it, and if you need to ask the second question, you've structured your routine wrong and/or you've got no patter. It also means that the effect has no story and you haven't tried to put your character into it. I've been doing magic for less than two years and I know that, and I don't even perform on a regular basis.

Have I missed something or is this just a rather workaday routine using pretty well-known sleights?
A quick Google turned up a UK site selling this at just under £15. I just took Harry Lorayne's TCC-2 off my shelf and rough-counted that there are over 100 effects in that book. If Harry charged at £15 per effect or move he should be asking around £1,500 or $2,400 for it. |

Why so hard on this trick? There are so many better examples than this to make your point.
"Ambidecktrous" comes with a custom printed playing card - something you can't make yourself. And, this particular gaff is very clever. It's based on a Larry Becker gaff from his routine "Intuition" and capitalizes on the new Bicycle card box design. I think it's very magical when the printing on the box changes. Robert |

I thought the whole point of releasing this wasn't so much for the particular routine but to release the gaff to change the card on the back of the box. The gaff is pretty nice, too. Before this was released, I tried to print one of my own as I had the idea for a routine I wanted to do. The results were not satisfactory enough for me to add it to my repertoire. However, when this came out I nabbed it on sale just for the gaff alone. It was worth it to me.

I assumed he was f*****g the 10 hearts each time. You're thinking of the sponge ding dong. |
