I have noticed that some older members here feel a need to tell newcomers to shut up. If you only have a few posts you must be an idiot and must be silenced. I was just voicing an opinion, not telling others what do or how to do it, just saying what I thought and I was basically attacked. "Show us your credentials, who do you think you are, what do you know, you're just a noobie". This guy never addressed the point I was making to point out where he thought I was wrong. His attitude was-hmmm less than 50 posts, shut him up! This is just discusting. It shouldn't be tolerated. I know that there are restrictions if you have less than 50 posts and I'm beginnig to realize that free speech is one of them! Can anything be done about this or are we just supposed to "take it" like some hazing ritual.

You joined September 2012. Why do you not have at least 2,000 posts by now?
How I avoided being attacked was to just come out and admit I'm a noobie, I have no idea what I'm talking about and I'm the worst performer I've ever seen. People can be cruel, but if they see someone laying in the street bleeding, they tend not to kick them. |

Wow Zombie, that's just sad and pathetic. You shouldn't have to play those kind of games to avoid being pounced on by the Noobie Nazis. It's just common sense and common decency that in a discussion you don't attack the person, you respond to what the person said. You would think in this day and age people would know it isn't right to say "You're wrong because you're a (fill in the blank)". I don't think I'm just going to lie down and bleed.

You've got to see that in the tons of people we have here, there will just be some people like that. The vast majority of people here, from my experience, are pretty gracious. But some people tend to get up on the wrong side of the bed sometimes. You get to know who's who and what's what after a while. It doesn't stop as your post count grows. It will happen from time to time, but most here tend to treat people as they would like to be treated.
There will always be Noob Nazis, but this community has a LOT of great people - you'll see that if you hang around. I saw what happened, and I thought you responded well. How do you not have free speech if you have less than 50 posts, though? I'm stumped on that one.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Chessman, I hope you're right about the majority of people here. About the free speech thing, I just meant that it seems some people think you don't have the right to voice your opinion if you have a small number of posts.

I went into your posts to see exactly what you were talking about. (I am assuming it was from the thread about the cooler switch)
First and foremost I want to point out I agree with you. Not only in what you posted in that particular thread, but with what you have said in this one as well. I do not judge anyone based on their number of posts. However I think you are taking it a little too personal. This is the internet, and people tend to be more of an ***hole online than they are in person. The internet has always been that way, on every forum there ever was, and every forum there ever will be. Just let it be and carry on. No use getting all upset over what one person said. It’s just like the school yard; you will run into a jerk or two. And duking it out never solved anything. Recently there has been a bit of duking it out going on in the forums, between two particular well known and respected magicians. And it evolved into some crazy bashing, slander, and downright wrong actions on both of their parts. Trust me you don’t want to be a part of something like that. All in all, I am sure after a while and get to the forums and the people on them you will see this place is great, and filled with so much knowledge. All in all welcome to the Café, and I am glad you are here.

As has already been mentioned, the low-lifes of the earth do crawl out from under their rocks from time to time and show up on forums with a bad attitude and an agenda of causing grief for as many as possible...shame on them.
That being the case, never leave home without your umbrella because there will always be those who want to rain on your parade. Hang-in there - I built this place for everyone in magic to learn and share, so please don't let a few idiots ruin the experience for you. Wishing you only the best...

GUMBY!
All will be well; I've been doing magic for 40 years but only joined this board two days ago. Hazing is a ritual we all unfortunately have to go through, but I've found this board so far to be amazing. With regard to the jerks, just remember opinions are like a**holes...well, you know the rest of the joke. Just laugh at those who bash you, as they aren't as well adjusted as you and I are. your pal, Lobsta

Just have fun and ignore the mean people. If it helps, here's what has happened to me:
My VERY FIRST Café post I was attacked on my opinion because it was my first post. lol. Then I was attacked because I was posting too much. Then I've been attacked because I buy too much magic. Ready for one that has happened a lot to me? I have been attacked in the Café and in PM's because...ready? I have replied to threads that some felt were too dated and should not be brought back. Why do these things happen? Because people have very little control in their lives. So, they come to forums to bully and control others. Ignore them. |
