In the November/December issue of "The Voice of FCM"- there is a complete and very thorough instructive review about the entire "Happie Amp" system for magicians. I have the original model sold years ago- it still works great- and it appears this sound microphone/amplifier system has gotten even better. If you are thinking about ordering this system, this would be a great article to read first. The Happie Amp has never failed me- once MagicBob, SuZie and myself did a Gospel magic and chalk art show in the maximum security prison in Bermuda- I was very relieved the system worked great there with SuZie's music. Some attenders came straight from weight room/exercise yard to watch us. Those guys all looked like they belonged on an NFL squad. The amp worked great- they heard the music clearly and all seemed to enjoy the program.

Roger,
I mean this in no way as disrespect but those of you that own the Happie Amp do not know what GOOD Sound is. I personaly purchased the Happie Amp and I properly returned it ,as it was and this is my HONEST Opinion "JUNK" I know my Sound Systems very well and the Happie Amp is Horrible. I voiced my concerns to Brian and he dismissed them. He did refund my money. If you want a Small System you could have purchased the NADY System, for the same price and had a little better sounding system. Spend some more money and get a Mi-Pro if you are looking for something small and lightweight with a Built in Mic System and that can run on AC/DC. Yes, it will cost you around $ 700.00 but it will far outlast a Happie Amp. And now the Remote that he has come out with cannot compete with an IPOD Touch and Sound Cues. Sound Cues will blow away the Happie Remote and for about the same cost. An IPOD Touch and the Show Cues w/Remote will cost you around $ 400.00 versus the Happie Amp Remote that will cost you $ 449.00. Rodney

Prior to my older model HappieAmp, I did have the NADY portable PA system- had it's own built in handled cart with a cassette player. Problem with it- very heavy to lug around. I recently was in a Walgreen's- they had on display a round speaker for about $60 in their "electronics" area that was less than the size of a softball. It apparently can be plugged into a device like an ipod or cell phone. I cranked up their display model- it was amazing-that tiny speaker filled the whole store with music- freaked both me and my wife out. I have no idea where electronics is going- obviously high volume sound on much less size.

One of the advantages of the Happie Amp is getting a good value for your money. I do not think Brian has ever marketed his product as the "elite" in sound capabilities. It is kind of funny how so many want to discuss "high quality" sound when discussing small, portable systems. I do not care whose system you are "campaigning" about, to compare a small system (such as the Happie Amp or similar) with shall we say a Mackie or Allen and Heath board, QSC amps and 3 way speakers is not a fair comparrison. Any system that offers a single speaker is designed to amplify sound, not to provide studio quality sound.
Here it is plain and simple; a Happie Amp gives you ample input and output jacks, 2 transiever packs capable of lapel mics or headset style and a handheld mic is you choose the system that retails for $268. That is a great value. Stop by your local music store or (ugh) Amazon.com and price out a portable PA system with 2 lapels, 2 head sets and a handheld mic and see what the total comes to. I bet it is quite a bit more than $268. Is it the best in terms of sound quality, probably not, but I don't think anyone expects or promotes that. If you need an affordable system that is reliable, easy to use, versatile and gets the job done you need to consider a Happie Amp. He offers great customer service and stands behind his products. The idea is you can walk in almost anywhere with a Happie Amp and function well. Most who have GOOD SOUND systems do not have an interest in lugging it in for a 30-40 minute party. By the way, Brian is a great guy but support your local magic shop if they carry the product. We are proud to stock the HAppie Amp for our customers and we have a working demo in the shop so if you are in Tampa, stop by and we will give you the once over. |

Gary,
So what you just wrote is a Biased Post as you sell the "Happie Amp" Glad I do not have to shop at your Brick/Mortar store as you sell "JUNK" Rodney

Man Rodney you seem like a grumpy old bitter man! You seem to think you know everything and that is just the reason so many, like myself rarely post anything.

Terry,
What burns me is when people post false information and they do not know what they are talking about. I know Sound Systems and the Happie Amp is NOT good and they are better ones out there for just a tad more money. I am trying to help people improve their shows with music and vocals. And a Happie Amp will make you look like you do not know what you are doing. YES, a lot of people swear by the HA because they just do not have the ear for sound systems. Rodney

Which Mi-Pro model do you recommend, in it's place?
Also, you referred to a $700 system. I'm not sure how that is "just a tad more money" (quote from a different post) than a $250 Happie Amp system. Can you clarify if you were actually speaking about something else again? - Donald

@Donald,
I referred to the Nady system for around $ 120.00 and I also stated in another post that if you wanted a really good Small Sound System to invest in a Mi-Pro 101 or a Fender Executive System ($ 600.00) The Nady System is quite comparable to the Happie Amp and is a lot less money. Remember you get what you pay for and if you want junk you do not spend a great deal of money. I actually witnessed first hand a Magician who used the Happie Amp for a Room of 100 people. He thought that his HA was just perfect. Guess what? He got heckled because people could not understand what he was saying and he just sounded horrible. People actually yelled out to purchase a better system. So my opinion is this, if you want to SOUND Un-Professional purchase a Happie Amp. If you want to SOUND like a Pro purchase a Mi-Pro or a Fender Executive. Rodney

Thanks for the clarification.
What's you opinion of the Mackie SRM-150? (I know it doesn't have a wireless mic, nor is it battery operated, but it seemed like a decent system for the money, when I heard it in person.) - Donald

@Donald,
I think that the Mackie SRM-150 is very good and for the price it is decent. But most people want an all in one system and that is just not the best way to go. Yes, it is convienant but much better to purchase your system in pieces. Rodney

It's one thing to offer an opinion, but to refer to a product as "junk" and to blast Gary as a merchant and stereotype his store seems to me to go too far. Rodney, I remember a while back you gave this same treatment to Jim Snack's Success in Magic program (read the account here: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=44 .) An entire thread of happy customers who have benefitted from the use of these magic products is detailed on both of these occasions, and while it's fine for you to disagree, I think labeling it 'junk' and belittling those who have purchased and been satisfied with the Happie Amp is unnecessary. If you don't like a product, fine, but to go as far as you have in both of these instances simply makes me discount what you have to say. Different strokes for different folks. I'm very happy with my Happie Amps, and think Brian has done a great service to the magic community by offering a sound system that helps magicians improve the value and impact of their shows. Respectfully, Jeff

I own the HAppie Amp 2.0 system and although I cannot compare it to much more expensive sound systems I can honesty say that I am very satisfied with my Happie Amp. It packs small, doesn't weigh very much and gives me all the capabilities I need to run my music and sound. I've never had anyone complain about the sound of it. When I do a stage show like the one I recently performed for an annual event, where they have their own sound man, what's great is my mic and such work with the more expensive sound systems, so when the sound system is already provided , I have my own wireless mic to use.
The customer service I recieved was fantastic.

And why would you not!
Not trying to change anyone's opinion, considering opinions are rather subjective. Since I can give an expert opinion on my experiences using the Happi Amp 2.0 I thought I too would post my satisfaction with the sound system that has never caused me nor my audience any problems since I have owned it.

Hi! My name is Terry and I'm a Happie Amp ownwer.
No complaints from me so far! It does what I need it to do, and from what I can tell, does it well. I'm no expert in sound, but I test drove it prior to purchase for a Blue and Gold Banquet. It worked great, so I bought it. And for me, the cost was right. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Maybe the heckled magician in the above story did not have the settings correct?

Guys, guys!! Mellow out and say a little prayer for goodness' sake! You are arguing about a portable PA system and sadly getting at one anothers' throats. If I didn't know better I would think I was in The Workers forum which can be quite a nasty place. I hates to preach to the choir, but, you know that conflict get nobody nowhere and quickly. Opinions are good and differences are healthy, but what has anybody gained here except a headache?
I am a musician and use my PA system for stage magic simply because it makes no sense for me to buy a separate sound system for magic. I like the sound I get; if a PA system can capture all the nuances and dynamics of live music, then it certainly can handle the demands put on it by most stage magic shows. Having said that and I hasten to add that this is a general statement, if you do not like the PA system you have bought or are still considering what to buy, go to a GOOD music store and talk to the guys that know sound. Do have some musician friends? Talk to them as well! To put it another way, you want the best for your audiences, no? So, you ask advice about magic on a magic forum; it would make no sense to ask about a new magic routine in a forum devoted to graphic art! Do your homework and find what works for YOU. If someone disagrees, it's cool to engage them in civil discussion but this thread is just ugly. We Christians are not perfect; remember my brothers that we all fall short of His glory. That said, we need to strive to be better and to try to live in His example. I mentioned The Workers forum where I hang out most because card magic is my specialty. I have made a lot of friends there but also a few adversaries. I admit that in a few of those cases I did not take my own advice and instigated the problem and you know brothers, it feels lousy. I have seen controversy here of course, but, this is the first time I have seen name calling and frankly it shocked me. Rise above it folks please? +In Christ our True God, Vlad |
