Hi,
I love and only do card magic. Can someone suggest some strong gospel card tricks for me and possibly where I can buy/learn them? Thanks Waz |

One that I personally like and use is the "King of Hearts". It is sold by Dock Haley. This is a packet effect and I like it because It is easy to carry, is good as a stand-alone or can be used as part of a routine. I suppose it depends on what you are looking for.
Dock Haley carries quite a few card effects, somewhere around forty. Their site would be a good place to start. Ray

I would think that virtually any card effect would work. Unless one needs specially designed cards, presentation is the thing.
Do As I Do: SO many presntational ideas if you think about the effect OOTW: Separating the wheat from the chaff T&R: Again so many presentations come to mind: When we sin we are furthest from God, but repentance restores us. Christ's death and Resurrection, defeating death! Rather than take up bandwidth with two hundred effects and ideas, I wlould just say that if you know the lesson you are trying to teach, the presentation is your focus. Note: I am not a gospel magician but I am Christian. I don't see a lot of posts concerning cards in this section of The Café, so, when I saw one I thought I would hop in! I would add one more old one which could appear TRULY memorable: in The Encycopedia of Card Tricks there is the old story effect of the soldier caught in church with a pack of cards. To ramp this up, you could switch in the deck you are going to use for the story. This would be made stronger if you switch it in secretly, preferably with a technique in which the cards never seem to leave the spectators' sight such as a d*** s**** or The Cooler from Christian Engblom. +In Christ Vlad |

I have used the story Vlad mentions...the 'Soldiers Deck'. It is well worth the time to put together, even if only as a story, but there ARE some good ways to use it as a centerpiece of a magical effect. You can see a good presentation by magician Justin Flom at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGPKpIuX3cY

Yes indeed Vlad... any card trick, and magic effect, with some thought can be used to convey the Gospel message.
But before you ask someone to beleive, shouldn't you tell them something about the One in which you beleive? So you can be a testimony to God, His Wisdom, His Love, so very much about him, without any tricks at all. Tell your story. Tell what He means to you. Then live your life to reflect the One who you call Lord and Savior. That said, Although I use my own, Where is God packet trick on ocassion, more often I use an effects with standard magic props. One example, is that I do a one ahead card trick to talk about omnicience. It allows me to talk about all of His attributes; Ominience, Omnipresence, Omnipotence, and Love. This is done with any ungimmicked and fairly shuffled deck, and in the end, you have demonstrated that God knows what we are going to do, even before we do it. I also do a stiff rope routine with patter about his being there for us. The message I leave beyond the effect and comments about how He knows, is that if He is that powerful, and He is. Who else can you trust? Who else knows everything, and still Loves you? Who else should be in charge of your life? It is easy, just give up your life to Him. Neither you, nor I, nor very few others do a very good job of it, by ourselves! And I do the hopping half with a patter about how God supplies, and expects us to be good stewards. So here we have God's provisions. And we use them His Glory. I take away a copper coin. What do I have left? No I still have two coins, because I used the coin for His Glory.... and on until, I get down to the end, and then I talk about how I have been such a good steward, God won't mind if don't use them for His Glory, and be greedy and put this coin into my pocket, and now what do I have left? By now they are ususally onto the basic effect, and expect a silver and a copper, so the impact is that much greater when I show .....Nothing.....I then ask, why would God supply, if He knows I will steal from Him. Naturally, he already knew. But like Peter, I had professed to always be faithful, and then fell. And He still loves me! Good luck and God Bless. But don't think you need any props to talk about God. Impromptu discussion friend to friend can easily plant the seed. David The Doctor

I hasten to add though that we do not do the door to door things as do the JWs and Mormons. Furthermore, while there are Orthodox priests who do magic, NONE of them use magic in a Gospel setting/teaching for reasons I need not get into here. That said, I do respect what you and other Gospel magicians do as we are called upon to share The Good News. But you are spot on that talking about Him is first and foremost as we should love God above all things. So I am a Christian and I am a magician (and musician) but I do not do Gospel magic. I DO thank God for the talents He has given me. My participation in this section of the forum is rare. As stated, I chimed in because I work mainly with cards and posts here about card effects are - relative to other types of effects - relatively rare. +In Christ our True God together with our Almighty Father and the Life Creating Holy Spirit, Vlad |

I do out of this world where we choose what to do, first they get it wrong then we imagine God was helping us and it all works. I explain that magicians can do tricks with cards but God can help sort out anything in life, I don't let them think god is really sorting out the cards, I use it as an illustration.

Vlad, I agree, Talking with care is the best way to spread the message, magic can only be used to illustrate a point and should be done with severe caution, we should not liken ourselves as magicians to God, and certainly should not suggest God can do magic tricks. God is so much more!

Lately different gospel presentations come to my mind with card tricks. I want to do it better and better and just wanted to ask your advice, who makes gospel presentation with card tricks if there is a pattern you use for creating the presentation. For example the presentations that I thought of came to my mind when I was thinking about end of a trick. And depending on the end I would have an idea and work my way to middle and beginning of the presentation.

We agree that--in everyday life--living a faithful life and talking to people is the best (really the only) way to plant the seeds of the Gospel message.
St. Francis of Assisi said it best: "Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words if necessary." However, that was not the topic here. The original poster asked a question about what card tricks the others would recommend to use in a Gospel magic setting. We don't know that he ISN'T already talking to his friends, family and neighbors about his faith...in fact, I would guess that he IS. That being said...I like the suggestions so far. I agree with the Vlad's premise that virtually ANY card effect can have the storyline adapted to fit the message. One of my favorite effects in card magic is done by Bill Malone and is called "Sam The Bellhop". With a little thought, I'll bet a new story could be created for a Gospel twist. Hmmm. I'll have to think about that a bit! Quote: On 2012-11-12 17:16, DoctorCognos wrote:

I've worked up a routine using the 6 card repeat- using using 2 LOAFs and 4 FISH(etc) and the verses of JESUS feeding the 1000s with only !! you can make it up yourself by getting a blankdeck and drawing the Fish and Loafs - count, you"ll have to figure that out for yourself. Making effects yourself is FUN. Ralph (russo)Rousseau
