Carl Andrews Table Hopping Cups & Balls.
Its done with two cups only. Final loads is spongeballs, so you can continue with Carl's signature Ain't No Mo Spongeball routine. This pice travels light and is full of laughter. On DVD from Magic Smith.

I agree that Carl's routine has some nice moments and is quick and easy to learn.
A good routine for a beginning cups and balls person.

Yep, Carl's routine looks like the best for me - but I have never seen Scott's so I can't comment on his.

FYI, I just bought Carl Andrews' video from themagicwarehouse.com for $9 - half price. I posted this in another topic earlier this week.

I think for table hopping a chop cup routine would work if there is little space on the table... otherwise the Riser Mini Cups.

I suggest checking out tommy wonder's cups and balls routine. I think it could work very well at tables. My hands aren't too big and I haven't went to get those cool fuzzy balls at a store yet so I haven't really done much with it. I just watch it and love it.

I love the look of the riser minis but I'd be worried about running out of time with a 3 cup routine while hopping.
That's why I always use the chop cup. I think since tommy wonder's routine requires the cups be set down on their sides, etc. I'd be worried about rolling, etc. I don't know if I'd use that for table hopping.

Best Marketed Routine for table hopping IMO is Doug Brewers Chopped Taters from his book "The Unexpected Visitor". Simple, easy to follow, great participation, and fun what more could you want in a routine?

The Rezvani Tomato Trick (two bowls) or the Benson (Don Alan popularized) Bowl Routine.
You have it all, surpises, sponge balls, loads, and small space area needed. Whew is it cold here in L.A. today, or what?

I tend to use a chop cup myself. It's just more economical and quicker but still packs quite a punch when using 2 loads at the end. Just play around with it and make up your own routine. I suggest using surprise appearances of the ball on top of the cup. I do it twice in my chop cup routine and it kills.

For table hopping, I'd have to cast another positive review for Carl Andrews Table Hopping Cups & Balls.
Excellent Material.

Okay,
I currently perform two different routines: My own and Tommy Wonder's(with a wand and a different dialogue). And I have learned a couple of things. I would only recommend Tommy's routine with either a table with magicians (who hopefully have never seen it), and for those tables at which you have already nailed, as a return item. I have noticed that my three cup routine is able to survive the stoic, lobotomized spectator better than Tommy's, but that Tommy's will also kill at those tables that seem conditioned to laugh reflexively at the magical absurdities taking place. Scott Guinn's routine is wonderful, though I have not woodshedded it enough to implement it. I have messed with two-cup routines in the last few years, and find that they are rythmically much harder to put into cadence. Scott, in my opinion, gave some of that back by making it a two-cup, but "one ball" routine, which in my opinion seems to be more "musically metered," if that makes sense. Carl's is nice as well. The sponge loads mean you can vigorously use those oblong Morrissey anorexics without fear of that "rock in a sock" inertia torpedoing your performance. One more thing on Tommy Wonder's thinking. On that DVD, he shows a remarkably diabolical way of getting the large load, that does not require you to have it on your person. I will not reveal it here, but I will say I have decided to work on a chop cup routine because of this, although must admit that my recent acquiring of John Bannon's books have contributed heavily to this as well. |

Dave Williamson's is my pick.

I wish David Williamson would release material on video in which he is performing for lamen. I know there is a small bit on the Sleight of Dave videos, but not much.. I'd buy a performance only video from him in a heartbeat.
I'll second Dave's Cups and Balls as a real entertainer. That's the routine that drives my previous lament in the first paragraph. |

Johnny Ace Palmer's routine from one of his videos (Trilogy) is very nice. I saw him perfom it firsthand at his Sunday night restaurant (Earth, Wind, and Flour in Santa Monica, CA).
