It is with a heavy heart that I am passing on the very sad news that my long time friend Scotty York is now in a Hospice facility in Northern Virginia and is near the end of his time with us. He was taken to a hospital about a week before Christmas and has apparently suffered a series on mini strokes. He is not able to speak and is in a near coma. His family are with him. I will pass on any further developments as I learn them from his son.

Very Sad news. I met Scotty back in the seventies and worked with him at the Brook Farm Inn of Magic in the early eighties. He was always very kind to me and I'm so sorry to hear this.

I'm so sorry to hear of this news and my heart goes out to Scotty, his friends and family. I was just reading his "On Coins" from the mid 70's and just as amazed at his thinking as when I first read it back then.

Our family will offer prayers for him today.

This is terrible news. I love Scotty's magic. I first saw him at a convention in North Carolina in the 70's. I never forgot his light bulb trick. Years later, when he published the details of constructing the bulb, I diligently tracked down all the many components (not a simple task) and successfully built one of my own (not a simple task, at least for me) and enjoyed performing it many times. I wrote to him and made some suggestions, based on my experience building the bulb, for changes or elaboration of the published instructions. He wrote back thanking me and said my suggestions would be taken into consideration if the book ("For Your Eyes Only") was re-published. I don't believe it ever was, which is a shame because it contained a wealth of information in addition to the light bulb stuff.

Additionally the tapes he made for A-1, "Professional Tricky Bartender" and his stuff on the Steven's tape, "Bar Magic" (along with Eric Mead and Bob Sheets) were and inspiration to me and, I'm sure, many performers.

It is with deep sadness that I must report that Scotty York passed away today.

He will be greatly missed. We have lost one of our great innovators. May he rest in peace.
