Hi everyone !
First of ll a very happy new year and secondly a big thank you for reading my first post on the forum Now to tell you all a little bit about my self. I was born in Scotland , Lived in the same house since I was born (about 40 mins away from Edinburgh Castle), took an interest in magic aged 9 when I saw Jimmy Craig performing at a kids party and an interest in wood work at the age of 13 when I went to High School and an interest in acting t the age of 14. I have combined my hobbies and generally build / consult more so than performing , However when I do perform it is generally whilst wearing evening tails as a stage show. Hugley interested in the history of magic . I won the Edinburgh international magic festival's first place award the first year they ran it and have since gone on to work with them every year since, Been on TV and film ,Done loads of musicals too .Currently 17 . I am Dyslexic so please bear with me if you cant understand what I have written just ask Never been on a forum before so this should be fun Thanks for reading !

Welcome Thatoldblackmagic,
You seem very accomplished at 17, good work! There are quite a lot of dyslexics here (including myself) just remember, spell check is our (and our reader's) friend. -Mary Mowder |

So! you're Scot! (American readers should note that I didn't say SCOTCH)!
See how good it is to belong to this "clan"! --You've already met another countryman!! (Libertus) My dear old friend, Pat Page, always wore a KILT when he was working! Do not be concerned about the dyslexia. We're happy to have you with us. Most of us are a friendly lot --except ME! --but, I do TRY to be friendly! (some folks think that I'm just very TRYING!) JAY MARSHALL, of whom you may have heard, was also a Scot. He had, as a young man, a part in a play in New York. He played the bag pipes in the play. He once told me that, "I played: THE CAMPBELLS ARE COMING --or-- BONNIE DUNDEE. I'm sure it was one of those pieces!" (hee hee)

As Pat Page once told me: "I'm not Scotch! 'Scotch' is a drink! I'm Scots!"
Welcome, Kerry! You'll find that we are a fairly friendly lot--except ME! But, I TRY to be friendly. (Some folks think that I'm just very TRYING!) I hope you've noticed already, the benefits of belonging. You've already met a fellow countryman! (Libertus) Don't worry about the dyslexia! I note you dress very formally when you perform. Pat always wore the KILT! Jay Marshall, of whom you also very likely have heard, was also a Scot. As a young man (eons ago) he had a part in a play in New York. In his role, he played the bag pipes. When asked what he was playing, he replied, "It's either THE CAMPBELLS ARE COMING or BONNEE DUNDEE. --I know I play one." Me? I'm Norwegian. So is Gene Anderson! --but he can speak it! Glad ye have joined us!

Hi Dick , Kerry? That is my Moms name , I am Liam ,never heard a bad word about Pat ,having seen a lot of bad tartan and bagpipe magic I went for the tails / blackstoneeque tuxedo , I can remember being 5 years old getting a kilt put on for a wedding crying shouting at my parents " I am not wearing a dress to the wedding!" Lol , probably what put me off , you mentioned being Norweigan do you know Carl De Rome?

Liam! I see two posts got "on". I wrote the first one and it disappeared (darn if I know where) so, I tried again. As Trevor Lewis said to me years ago when I was "inhabiting" the Charlie Miller Suite at Magic Inc: "Three times for a Welshman!"--So you get two!
I must be a mental case (oops, a mentalist)When I was writing, the name "Kerry" popped into my mind.(TransAtlantic "clairvoyancy"?) Don't ask how that happened! --I don't know!!! No, sorry I don't know Carl. I have not heard his name before--but I've had a sheltered life! (???) Pat Page, I first met in Davenport's in London (1966) The last time I saw him, we were both attending a "magic day" near Ann Arbor, Michigan. I had a booth. I was selling some used props. Jay brought Pat over and asked if I had any safety pins. Pat needed to put a TOP IT in his jacket. He was working the night show. Boy Scouts to the rescue! I found some pins. It was a fair trade. I had picked up a very clever idea from Pat for stealing the first load for the Misers Dream a few years earlier. I first saw Harry Blackstone Sr.in 1945,at the old Davidson Theater in Milwaukee, Wisconsin when I was 13. I had just started performing. I'll never forget that matinee. Mr. "B" was very kind. I met him backstage that day. It was an all night train ride from my home in northern Michigan (hundred miles from the Canadian border) but I made that trip at least three times in the next four years. Mr. B was always very hospitable and made me welcome. I worked mostly schools and colleges all over the U.S. and finally retired a few years ago. I'm 81 and keep busy mentoring a few young fellows about your age.. Best wishes as you are starting out in this business. I spend an hour or so every morning "checking out" the latest posts. I'll watch for your comments. Dick The sneaky, underhanded, devious, and surreptitious itinerant mountebanc...

Wow Dick thank you for the nice messages ,I can't believe that you met the real Blackstone , I had a friend in his 80s who was my mentor but saddly passed away in November Allen G. Tipton ,Allen was a Drama Techer / Magician who performed at schools in England , Is it tru that the US have real stages wih tabs in the schools? I am producing our school show with no tabs or wings , minimal lights and almost zero scenery with no where to hang it! Would be great to chat by PM , I just finished my first Asrah frame work today.
