I had my set for a couple of weeks, and this is one of the best DVD's I have in regards to performing for children. It makes my other DVD's on children magic absolete.
I have built my own jumbo multiplying wands, but instead of using plastic piping suggested by Danny, I decided to use storage tubes I bought from Staples Store. They come in different sizes and wieght much less that plastic tubing, plus cheaper as well. I then bought several colors of Duck tape to color my wands. I also noticed in Staples that Duck tape also comes in different colored design patterns. Altogether it cost me $30 dollars to make five wands.

Regarding the Danny Kazam solution for Jumbo Multiplying Wands:
You definitely have a workable solution. I have done the same thing, using cardboard mailing tubes. If you perform a lot of shows, you will find that the cardboard will fatigue, bend, dent etc, especially if you do my routine where I let them drop on the floor. The PVC pipe approach, though more expensive initially, will practically last forever with an occasionaly touch up of tape. So in the long run, you'll save money. Finally, I like them heavier because they make a really loud CLUNK when they fall on the stage. A complete explanation of how to make these is contained in a pdf file on disc#3 of "The Art of Presenting Magic to Children." |

I was wondering, would the PVC hitting the floor damage the floor? I often perform in homes with hardwood floors and would hate to damage their floor.

Thanks Danny for your response. There is no doubt that my solution is not as great as yours is, but I cannot always allow them to fall on the floor due to what Josh mentioned. Even most stage platforms I might perform on have wooden floors, and most houses I perform at have wooden floors as well. I can't take a chance on damaging hard wood floors. I should of mentioned that I also don't let the tubes fall to the floor like you do, but I wish I could. The cardboard tubes will not hold up as great as the PVC pipes, and the other thing I should mention is that I am almost certain they will not hold up in warm weather when performing outside like PVC pipes would.
Once again I have to say that your DVD set is one of the best I have seen. There is so much great stuff that you share, and I am very glad you were willing to release it all to us. I have several, and I do mean several DVD's on children's magic, and I personally find this DVD set to be the best. I sure hope you continue to share your wisdom with us.

These are only falling from a height of maybe 4 feet. Absolutely no way it can damage a floor, unless it's made of glass! It's a good question. But this is not an issue. The question you SHOULD be asking is, "How do the wands stay together even though there are no caps on the ends of them?" |

I cannot comment too much on Danny’s DVD series because I only saw bits and pieces. These comments come from seeing his lecture last night.
First of all, there is no doubt to me that Danny is, as advertised, an extremely experience children’s entertainer. His advice was not some theory, but comes from actually being in the trenches and learning from experience. Two thirds of Danny’s lecture was almost exclusively on kid control. What was most effective about the way Danny teaches is his use of video. After he would enlighten us on a kid control technique he would then reinforce it by showing us a clip of his show in which the technique is working like a charm. He did this over and over again. As I say, his advice is not theory. I’ve heard from many of the great children’s magicians on this subject of kid control and have concluded that much of the strategy you choose to employ comes from your personality. So, some of Danny’s techniques I will not be using. But I’ve discarded advice from Silly Billy, Chris Capehart and David Ginn, etc. in the past too. However, there is no doubt that his strategy works perfectly for him! And with the video proof it has caused me to revisit some previously discarded advice. The most pleasant surprise of the lecture was the last third, when he and his wife Jan talked about the benefits of adding an assistant and scripting your show. A well scripted show and use of an assistant can produce some amazing results in controlling kids and getting your audience to react exactly the way you want them to. And again, this was all backed up by video proof. I left the 3-hour lecture inspired and energized. To me, that is a sign of a good lecture!

Good question, I imagine because they fall so quick even though in the show I did notice a flash of the wands peeking out after hitting the floor..lol Don |

From what I seen in Danny's DVD set they didn't stay together. Once the big one fell the others were coming out. Just my observation from his DVD performance. And yes, they can damage hardwood floors. I will try to post picture of the
dent it left on mine.

I am (once again) thrilled that yet another review has been published raving about "The Art of Presenting Magic to Children." Magician Mark Walker says:
"Danny Orleans’ new DVD set - The Art of Presenting Magic to Children - is long overdue. It’s a product I’ve dreamed about but never thought I’d see during my lifetime...Sprinkled throughout his 3-DVD set are plenty of gold nuggets provided that you’re willing to listen and study Danny’s successful techniques. In fact, you’ll probably need to watch this DVD set numerous times in order to absorb its tremendous wealth of information." If you haven't seen the review from magician Mark Walker in MAGIC Magazine, you can read it in its entirety reprinted on my site at this link: >>> http://www.dannyorleansmagic.co/news/Magic_Magazine_Review |

I don't know Danny, and honestly had never heard of him before last week, but wow! He mentioned in this thread that there was a story about him coming up in Genii, but I don't think he said it was a COVER story, and a great introduction to this talented professional. His performance preview online and the reactions he gets from 100% enraptured children is incredible. The few tips he shared are gold as well.

Don't have the DVD's yet, but I recently saw Mr. Orleans lecture in Chicago, and he was excellent. His combined background in education and years of magic touring make him a uniquely qualified expert. His lecture notes alone improved my kids show the very next day.

Danny just completed his lecture here in the San Francisco Bay Area and we were blown away. 42 in attendance and 2-1/2 hours of performance and lecturing. Danny's DVD's should set a new standard for DVD's. Professionally produced, chock full of valuable information and an extremely insightful commentary. Not only is Danny a superb performer, but an excellent teacher. Whether you're a full time pro or wanting to start doing kids magic, Danny has something for you. Thanks Danny for the best family show lecture I have seen in 30 years. No kidding!

Been waching my Danny Orleans "the Art of Presenting Magic to Children" DVD set. It is the best children's lecture dvd instructional video that I have seen.
First- his effects are great. I stopped doing the Magic Coloring Book because everyone does it. But not like him. His routine is fresh and I will be incorpating it into my act. I do a Zombie Ball routine- nice routine but Danny's is so much more geared towards the children. All of his ideas get the kids involved in the effect and that is great. HIs Work with children's wands are great. But the best part of the dvd is the management of the children. The pyschology behind the show. Fantastic information. I've watched several times already and I keep going "yeah, that makes sense". or "I should do this that way". Totally fantastic dvd set and a must if you perform for children. This sets the standard for dvd's geared toward performing for children. Highly recommneded! |
