I haven't seen that yet. Try the Pandora System by Shane Black & Paper Crane Magic. I do not have a website for that. I'm sure you can google it.
check out www.pattricksmagic.com for the best in close up pads and tables.

Shawn hasn't released this effect...yet.
The pandora system will allow you to do something very similar though. |

So will Spellbinder's "Signed Card to Sealed Deck" from The Wizards' Journal #13 at The Magic Nook, but only if you're a "Do-It-Yourself" kind of magician... which, come to think of it, you have to be with every version of this effect since some advance preparation is required in all of them. Oops! Did I let the cat out of the bag?

I do this trick for many years. (maybe even before Shwawn ) In those years I found little improvements. The trick is easy to perform and the impact is very strong. Why waiting for a commercial product if you can make a (maybe ?) better version yourself? Let your creativity flow ! |

However, this trick is not suited for table hopping. (at least the version I made for myself). For the preparation, you need privacy and approx. 3 to 5 minutes. |

Stephanne Jardonnet has a version that he developed independently but almost at the same time as Shawn called " Signed and Sealed " I would class most of these effects as intermediate in skill level and definitely not suitable for walk-around. I have on occasion performed it once in an evening for the booker or guest of honour and it plays really well. Just don't expect to be able to perform it table after table.

Hi magicdrums,
The video you watched says I am preparing to release the effect. It sure is taking longer than I anticipated, but it is coming and I appreciate all those patient people, like saysold1, who have waited for years. As for the comments above, some are a weee bit inaccurate. Waterloophai: I'd be interested in knowing when you created yours since you seem to suggest you may have been presenting it before me. Just for the record there have been MANY versions of a signed cards in sealed deck, WAY before me... nothing new here, just curious how long you have been performing the effect. Daz Buckley, you need to check your facts a little closer. "Stephanne Jardonnet has a version that he developed independently but almost at the same time as Shawn..." His was developed YEARS after mine. I own Stephanne Jardonnet's version and it is in my opinion a terrible method and presentation. The material that needs to be replaced isn't even available where I live! The fact that the demo video is EDITED to cover the poor method speaks volumes to the products legitimacy. If you watch the DVD instructions he even screws up and says, and I paraphrase, if you practice more it will look better than I do it.... wtf? I will agree that the signed card in sealed deck is not an effect for walk around, table hopping, etc. This is not an effect for most. It's an effect for that special event, TV show, top client, etc. Interesting fact, I can set to perform my version in about a minute, but each time is a one time use, as opposed to ones like Pandora, which can be used over and over again. Anyways, that's all I can tell you for now. I just released my new wallet C2W and it went crazy and I sold out. Penguin has a few left but now that leaves me to finish other projects. I have booked off most of February to finish projects like NetTricks, Clean Swipe, Stephen Bargatze's Wallets, my Cups and Balls (Blocks and Ball) and build some bookcases. Once all those are out of the way, I'll finish the Card in sealed deck effect. I think I'll be using Revizzit to distribute. Have you heard of this great site? Thanks for your interest. Cheers, -shawn |

Sorry I offended you by quoting some other ad copy I had read. I guess I was just trying to help someone out with my meagre experience and I didn't realise you would have such an issue with it. I purchased the effect in good faith and , in fact, I don't use the actual method/gimmick supplied either. And I perform it better than he does as well. I often wonder why I try and offer advice on these types of forums. It seems almost pre-deestined to offend someone. And heaven forbid that should be a FISM winner. So sorry Shawn, but I never once said anything about either method being better. By the way, if it means anything, the first time I ever saw you perform was on Penn and Teller Fool Us and that is the reasion I went looking for the effect in the first place. I was so impressed with yuor performance. |

Hi again,
Daz Buckley, I was not offended by your post, and sorry if that is how is reads. The tone of an email can easily be misread. If you read it again, perhaps you will see that all I wanted to do was to make it clear that the post was not correct, which is why I wrote that you need to check your facts a little closer. I have not seen an ad from Stephanne Jardonnet that mentions his creation was developed at almost the same time. If I had I would ask that to be corrected too. I love this forum for the helping aspects. Posting correct, accurate information is helping and that is why we all come to the Café, to learn, teach and share. As for Waterloophal, you sir had no respect for me before my post and you and I know that already. You have just found an opportunity to attack under the guise of defence of another. People who write 'MISTER" and define others by their award titles have hidden agendas in my opinion, or perhaps I too am reading tone into what could easily be your way of being overly polite as opposed to condensing. I will assume you were being overly polite and reply. You asked what added value I brought the the thread? That is a valid question. The original poster asked the availability of an effect I created. As the creator I feel perhaps I am best suited to answer the question. I did so and infact gave an explanation of why it has not been released and what to expect in the future. I also corrected misinformation, reviewed two other products (one positively and the other negatively), thanked people who in the past have been patient and even asked you a question which you have chosen not to answer. In fact I though it odd you would suggest in your post that you were doing the effect prior to me. I want to be clear I am not disputing your claim yet, I just asked you to substantiate your statement. Instead you chose to ignore my question and instead question my character. So be it, I don't see the added value of your post to this thread. I hope this reply is taken for what it is, an apology to Daz if he feels after reading my post again that I was attacking him, for that wasn't the intent. A thank you for those that show interest in my magic and to quote my new friend Waterloophal "that's all I want to say about it." Sincerely, -shawn |

I would prefer to have physical copy of the product for myself :/ It is rather annoying to open up software in order to read ebook. And I cant transfer it to my kindle or Sonyreader either cos using internet on em draws out their battery in under hour. In my mind this starts to be in the edge where the antipiracy measures start to affect the user experience in a way that they it will decrease the sales numbers. Almost like happened with games that had the "online something antipiracy measure". Many companies ended up removing em cos in the end pirates found a ways to get around em anyway. And the anti-piracy measures started to affect legimate users too much in negative ways. But if it is the only way to get the product I guess I and many others would just bite the bullet and go with it. Interesting question would also be the final sales numbers. Of course money isn't everything but with a product as hyped up as sealed deck routine it would certainly sell, lets just toss in imagined number of 10 000 copies, if it was made available in normal way with normal price of around 50$. With this system lets assume it is pirated 500 times. That I would estimate to be huge over estimation but don't really know the lenghts of magic piracy. There is always a risk that some youngster would buy it and make a youtube video of it. Especially if it can be set up in minutes. Now lets compare it being sold in revizzit. Cos the format is new to people and many people don't like the idea of not having physical copy of the product it will end up selling only 2000 copies. But the advantage is that it gets only lets say 100 pirates going around. They can be tracked down but if it is like old time VHS/lecture bookled piracy (copies to few friends) it doesn't help at all. There is already a quite high loss in profits and sales by the product not being available to those interested. Of course one option would be to go with Kohler/Alexander style... Normal product but high price to keep the mere curious out. This could perhaps net at least same ammount of sales that revizzit. I would estimate that way more. And for Kohler it has apparently been effective way to fight the piracy. Perhaps include the similar type antipiracy to the disc that is in the Blades DVD? Same has worked for Armando Lucero. Its not just the high pricing, you also receive ebooks from the workshops and yet his techniques have remained secret Or of course there is the other end option. A high interest product like this could be exactly what revizzit would need to really break out at least amongst magicians. Just checked that were under 100 magic products available in revizzit at the momement. Around 150 products alltogether. Its been out almost a year already so it hasnt really "taken flight yet". It needs a flagship to generate the interest of the masses. Sealed deck routine could be that product for magicians If you choose to go this road take that into consideration and ask to get your part of the profits of the publicity as well Sincerely Juha-Matti |

Shawn is a good man - a great performer - and I personally appreciate that he takes the time to visit these forums once in a while. I wish him well.
I am also appreciative of Waterloopai and others here who add a lot to the Café. I don't wish to take sides, but Shawn has every right to take pride in his version of a classic effect - and when released I will be there to grab it.

Shawn and I had an online mis-understanding, something that happens all too often on forums, but I have contacted him personally as I didn't want people taking sides in something that was just plain silly. He is a gentleman and I am also a big enough person to admit when I get things wrong. Buy his effect when it comes out, as it will be the best version of this type of effect you will ever likely see. And if you can learn to perform this anywhere near as well and as entertainingly as Shawn, you will have a reputation maker in your arsenal. Enough said ! |
