I'm from China and poor in English.
So I can't say too much but just hello to everyone here. I love magic and have been an amateur for more than 4 years.(Actually a newbee in most of your eyes). I practice close-up magic, cards and cups and balls are my favourites. By the way Tommy Wonder is my favourite magician in the world and may him rest in peace. Um...I use out of all my words. |

Welcome to the Café. Discussing props and device secrets are usually in the Secret Session part of the Café. You have to have 50 posts to enter. Otherwise general discussions are in the Latest and Greatest threads.
Et tu, Spartacus?

Hello Ivanlee--and WELCOME! You do a lot better in English than I could possibly do in Chinese!
One of my very good friends and associates in magic is DE YIP LOO. (Loo came from Hong Kong in the '30s) When I first saw him perform (1954)in a high school, he was doing the ("Chinese") RICE BOWLS. (To some American readers, that might sound rather dull. Loo told the audience that he was going to tell them the story of GOLDILOCKS AND THE THREE BEARS! (That is a CHILDREN'S FAIRY TALE) He further said that he would "act out" the story with a trick. NOW, here is what SOLD THE ROUTINE to that HIGH SCHOOL AUDIENCE: HE TOLD THE STORY IN CHINESE!!! The students were CAPTIVATED. It was HILARIOUS! The audience was "rolling around on the floor!!! --And, they gained an appreciation of a language and culture. Loo became a very successful magician and toured all over the country. He is now comfortably retired near Chicago. So, come visit us! You could follow in Loo's footsteps! Try and explain in a little more detail what you wish to discuss. We will try to help.

THANK you very much for such a long reply.
I know the rice bowls as well as the The three bears. It must be interesting to combine these two things together, and I am also curious about how he did that. I think I will go to America and other countries which has a lot of great magicians, I also want to see many shows such as David Copperfield's and MacKing's in Las Vegas~~~ It must be great and exciting! BUT I should complete my school first T T anyway, I'm so glad to recieve such helpful reply in my first topic in Café(Actually I have browsed the site for many years and this is the first time I regist an ID and post a topic)~ SO, thank you~ Quote:
