Thanks for the link!
I felt in love with those 1800's books. I suprised when I read The Black Art book written in 1869, it teaches a classic pass with cards in the first page of it!! Maybe I need more history lessons. |

What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

Sparticus! Mucho gracias neighbor! Everything old is new again. I can't count the number of times I've seen something taught in a clip such as something from Ellusionist and tehn find that very same thing in a book from the 40s or 50s. Thar's gold in them thar old books!

Some of the old books are best, I have Ormond McGills encyclopeadia of hypnotism, still one of the best.

These books are not out of copyright..they are available from the open library. (e.g. the Mark Wilson book is from 1993) These are simply available as in the library, Nonetheless a good resource.

I've noticed a trend developing, friends, that bothers me. I often recommend a book (magic or otherwise) to a person, and they immediately respond, "Oh, I avoid books, I get MUCH more out of a DVD..."
What does this say about the future? Harry Lorayne said it best: "Ya wanna keep something a secret? Put it in print!" Doug |

Great Link! Thank You.
Anyone have any recommendations on any of the titles that are showing up on the link? |

Dougini,
It seems to be a generational shift. I LOVE books! I was reading thick novels, Black Beauty, Jules Verne, Ray Bradbury back in elementary school (early 70s) for entertainment. There's a ton of hidden gems in the way of information to be found in the old classics of magic as I'd said earlier. But we live in an instant gratification world now. Why should I take my time to read when I can get it in pictures? Why should I need to know ten key to operate a till at the fast food drive through? Its much easier to punch a picture of a hamburger, a picture of fries...I agree wholeheartedly with what you are saying. Now then, I've found at times I can get something from a DVD as a COMPANION form of knowledge along side the book. Actually seeing a classic palm, how to get into it and out of it may at times help. But it is scary that people are avoiding the books completely. ~Rogue |

Yes, Jon Racherbaumer and I have been discussing this trend. BTW...Cursive writing is fading away, too. Apparently, I was born too soon. I agree totally, it's the instant gratification culture! Einstein had a very prophetic statement in this regard. I think I can find it in my saved file. PM me your email, and if I can find it, I'll forward it. Were you thinking of this one:
"Reading, after a certain age, diverts the mind too much from its creative pursuits. Any man who reads too much and uses his own brain too little falls into lazy habits of thinking." - Albert Einstein or this one? “If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.” - Albert Einstein I’ve always liked books better than videos, but with age I'm coming to like vids less and less. They are too slow. I can cover a hundred printed pages in the same time it takes to play a one hour vid. I can stay on a single page until I “get it”, without having to keep hitting rewind and waiting for the crucial words to come around again. And (for the same reason “the book was better than the movie”) I get a huge amount of detail out of the reading that is simply impossible to put into a video of any reasonable length.
...what if I could read your mind?
