This one has been bothering me a bit, I have a 'poem' for the sticks and strings I use in performance, and I am wondering if anyone could tell me where I heard it from... I have used it since I was 16, so it is possible I heard it on Paul Daniels Magic Show, or I could have (which is unlikely) made it up myself.
Here is the poem... Here I have two sticks, two stings, And both of them do silly things, Up and down look at them go, When this goes high, This goes low. Now, I know what you're thinking The string goes from here, to this end, Bit like (me/him/insert name), Round the bend. But if I move the sticks like so, This still goes high, when this goes low. But if this trick should go wrong, and both the sticks end up long, I pull a hair from your right (works best on bald bloke!) I twist like so, and they are outa sight. Just a tad confused here. and want to put my mind to rest LOL

I have answered my own question, it is based on Wayne Dobson's Ping & Pong. I knew I watched it on TV, just wrong magician and wrong channel!!
Thanks youtube!

There have been a number of magicians who have used rhyming patter for their performances. Dell O'Dell was one.
Gene Anderson, Jim Jayes, and an old pro. from California, whose name I've forgotten, all use/used rhyming patter for the sticks.

I take it, they all run with the same type of theme, I think the reason why I like the poem, it gives a reason to bring the props out, and the poem itself, gives a reason on why you are doing the effect.
My first ever Chinese Sticks came from the 'Marvin's Magic' magic circle set of tricks, way back in the early 1990's, hence why I remember that I must have seen the routine on TV. I now have the bamboo ones, and have performed this to both children and adults in a variety of different settings. Interestingly, when I was writing down the poem, I was miming the routine without the sticks, and I have found that the routine is now performed by muscle memory, I wasn't even thinking about the movement.

I use a story about cause and effect which is in line with the "science" patter I often use. Every effect has a cause, every cause produces an effect, but you have to beware that you don't confuse coincidence and causation, because you may come to wrong conclusions: You get the idea ...
