Roger, with the Arizonian climate, you must perform a lot of outdoor parties. How do you deal with the obvious problems that come with this? There's the wind and the sun for starters. You surely don't want sunburnt children. And scantily clad parents can be a bit of a distraction, I'm sure
But seriously, do you perform outdoors very much? And how do you treat it differently than indoors? Johh

In the winter months, from October to March, I probably do 80% of my birthday parties outdoors. As you know, most of my birthdays are two hour parties with games and magic, so I actually like being outside as it gives me more space for the games. The secret as far as doing a magic show outside is to try and do it in the shade if possible. If there is no shade in the garden, then make sure you face the sun rather than the children. I keep all the props for my show in a suitcase, and don't have anything on display, so if the wind does get up, I do not have a problem. I have done shows outside when it is 110 degrees in July, but that is rare. They are usually big events, festivals etc. and not birthdays. |
