From what I understand connecting this to a Fox holdout is an improvemt which could theoretically be marketed as something new.
Would it be wrong? It is way different than cat gut and sticky stuff. Maybe upgrade from monofilament to Spiderwire and it would be reallyyyy different. Let's be honest...some of us don't care, some of us do. Those that do like to see these reviews before buying as to NOT support the "creator" or Suppliers. It's just nice to Know where everyone stands...that's all. Their will always be a market for magic and always be a few that do care. |

Although admittedly cat gut gives a more mellow tone to a violin, there really is no difference in this case.
Probably the most pathetic excuse yet. |

If this was easily done, I'm pretty sure there will be little magic sold. Its not fair to say you can compare a magic gimick to another magic gimick without ever seeing it can. Its not like we are shopping for a lawnmower. We have to trust this work was done before we buy or we see it in reviews...we only learn about the "research" after how many pages vanished and now many pages here? We did only get 3 posts from Sean...albeit they were the same three posts Kind regards, John |

Which is why those type of products have patent protection and most magic does not (we try to rely on ethics and research)...to no avail. Which is why you see products get more and more expensive and "limited release" to keep idea away from the mere curious. We are paying a premium for DVD's and ideas and expect this premium price also had a budget for R&D. I really don't think any efforts were exhausted before it was released. The comment today from Murphy's solidifies that thought.
Any comments keep the topic alive though which is good for business/sales. The mere curious will continue to buy because that trailer looks really good and there are people still supporting the sale and see nothing wrong with it. I just ejoy a place where there is a friendly debate (for the most part). I just wish this topic had a different name...This HH needs a fresh topic for Reviews and discussion which will help people decide whether or not they should purchase. This topic got really muddy. Kind regards, John |

Funnily enough, Carl, after 25 years performing for people, I've started training in something completely different. It's a job which has a strict set of professional ethics. If you don't adhere to them, you lose your registration and are booted out of the profession. That's an attractive prospect to somebody like me. And in professions which have strict ethical guidelines, ignorance is no defence at all if you break them. If you aren't sure then don't do it, and if you think you are sure and get it wrong, make sure you have recorded due diligence. Now, Murphy's don't have to do this, they aren't bound by any professional ethics. No, it is down to them to operate in an ethical way. When a distributor comes along to properly challenge them, which will happen soon enough, the issues of dishonest advertising and plagiarism will matter in the market place. Some of us, particularly the less adolescent of us, vote with our wallets; you probably do so yourself. I rarely buy anything distributed by Murphy's; and there are others who I try to avoid. I'm sure there are some really nice people at Murphy's, but they don't behave very well. That matters to me, as a consumer. |

Your analogy is seriously flawed on several levels. I suppose that when you are downloading others material that's how you justify it.

Can I ask the angry mob a question? If he had credited the dead guy everyone is up in arms about and said, "I created this independently, but something similar was made by so-and-so and only did this but mine does all of this" would that have been ok with everyone?
This question is for people who might want to release things in the future, but see that their target audience are a bunch of crazy @-holes and get scared to.

That's a very good question, Stuckster. It seems to me that barring teenagers, the main market for magic is older men. What is interesting is that many of these people, myself included, are fairly well educated, reasonably intelligent professionals. Therefore, it sort of sticks in the craw to have to deal with Cowboys, because often that is the only choice.
This could have been really successfully marketed as a reinvention of an old idea. It would have grabbed the teen market, as HH has done anyway, and it would have satisfied the majority of the rest of us. For any potential creators out there, don't be shy! If you contact a knowledgeable magician, politely, they will surely check your idea and give you a heads up on prior work. There are some very bookish folks on here, and you could also join the Genii forum. The point is, if you can say that you ran it by X, Y and Z, and they all said it was original, if you are subsequently caught out then you can genuinely show due diligence. The independent creation line becomes credible. |

Man, Heaven help you if you leave a credit off your product these days. Some folks will be ban you for life. Given that this is a very arcane gimmick that has never actually been marketed before to anyone's knowledge, but laid in obscurity in print for decades, it isn't that difficult for me to believe that Sean created it independently and those he showed it to were unaware of its prior existence as well. So far only ONE person on this thread was aware of it's existence prior. Did he research it enough? None of us know, but it seems like he's already been convicted of a severe breach of morals and ethics. Unless a whistleblower steps forward with proof that Sean was aware of the Jarrett description I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I mean it's easy for any of us to play Monday morning quarterback and think that we would of researched for years and asked the "right" people and certainly discovered the Jarrett version before releasing the product to market. But maybe we wouldn't have. Maybe we would have missed it. Maybe we never would have thought to look in the Jarrett books. Maybe, just maybe, we would have made an honest mistake. So no one can make the claim with certainty that it couldn't happen to them , except for possibly the ONE person who brought it to light. But having said that, one thing Sean didn't need was Murphy's ridiculous reasoning for backing him up. That was totally lame and probably did more harm than good. |
