Nothing "new" about it. See Pages 170 and 171 in Jim Steinmeyer's The Complete Jarrett for a very close explanation of the Hidden Hand device - except Jarrett called it "Coin Vanish" and published it more than 75 years ago.

I'll also bet Murphy's will put in a little more due diligence in the future before accepting the claims of a "creator" without making sure he's actually come up with something new. Those are all good things. . |

Maybe this thread should be given a new name. Something new...from 1936.

This is where someone says the price of the DVD alone, with all the fresh ideas, are worth double what they paid.
That's how it usually goes. I'm curious if there will ever be a statement regarding what was pointed out on the originality of the idea. An apology would go a long way from the creator and distributors of the effect. I don't think that is too much to ask. Even if it was oversight Etc. Kind regards, J |

Personally I'm very impressed by this simple utility device and the great teaching and ideas on the DVD. Like any utility device, it has its pros and cons, but it definitely seems well worth practicing for times when the conditions are right. Simple moves, great displays and ease of retrieval are among the strongest "pros."
Not too concerned if a similar idea was published in a bare-bones, unillustrated version 75 years ago. The concept isn't rocket science, after all, so it was bound to occur to more than one curious magi over time. Perhaps others have used something similar too, but Fields and Eric Jones were undisputedly the first to put together a first rate package exploring the potential and varied uses for the idea, and offering work arounds for its inherent limitations. I bought this to help with one specific vanish in a prexisting routine. The instructional DVD offered many beautiful approaches to solving that particular issue, each with its own aesthetic strengths and angle requirements. So now I've settled on two to work up and try out initially. Excited to see how it will play.

Just received my copy of Japan Ingenious published by Mr. Kaufman and the trick "The vanishing Wedding Band" by Hideki Tani is very (very) similar to Hidden Hand. Or is it the opposite ?
Don't want to start any polemic but it is very strangely the same thing.

Just got it. Happy with purchase, and yes the video was very good. Just need to get a sleeve servante to use with a jacket on - Sean mentions this on the DVD but not sure where to get one.... Any help?

Why did they "vanish" the old Hidden Hand thread? Too much exposure?
I think it's just fair to point out that the method is nowhere new. There was no reaction whatsoever from Sean Fields but I feel it was overdue. Best Andreas |

Thanks MaxfieldMagic. I own the Fox gimmick and am using it with the HH as the anchor point - it won't work to keep the sleeve open however. I've messaged Sean directly as he does mention this on the DVD but I guess he's really busy at the moment
