Frankvomit said that he watches Apple TV and I wanted to know if I had to buy an Apple computer to watch this broadcast?

I think all you need is an Itunes account, and not the computer itself, but I'm not 100% sure of that. Everything in my house is a Mac.

I think you can smell what I am cooking here. I don't want to buy a $2,000 Apple computer in order to save a few pennies.

Al, one does not need an Apple computer to watch an Apple TV. Only, as Slide notes, an iTunes account (which is free).

(And, to be sure, one need not spend $2000 on an Apple computer. The entry level Mac Mini comes in at $599 retail, although you have to supply your own monitor. More savings are available if you don't mind buying the previous generation of hardware, perhaps refurbished.)

But if you're really being a frugal shopper, Apple TV isn't the move. Roku has a product that pretty much just does streaming for around $50 vs. Apple TV's $100. (Or, you can get the latest Roku box which has a lot of other bells and whistles for $100). On the cheapest end of the spectrum, a Chromecast is a simple device that does streaming and only streaming. It's $35.

In addition to all these prices, one also might need to pay subscription charges to whatever they're streaming. Some services, like Netflix and Hulu, charge about $8/month for unlimited viewing. Other services, like Google Play or iTunes, have much newer content in some cases, and charge per title and not monthly. Of course, some stuff (like YouTube) is free.

OK I do have an itunes file, an iphone, and an ipod.

Going all Apple is both restrictive, and expensive. I am only willing to go so far.

I bought my first computer only after someone showed me how I can make money with it. About the only TV I watch is the cable news, and I don't want to jump through a lot of hoops to watch it. I'll wait for the technology to catch up to my lazy attitude before I change anything.

Is that Fox News? Smile
If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000

Yes, I have both an Apple TV and 3 roku boxes. The apple tv never gets used. One of the Roku boxes is with my daughter at college, and I have two on different tv's in the house. Roku boxes are a one time fee of around $60. I love my Roku box. I probably use that easily as much as broadcast tv.

I occasionally watch FOX noise for a few laughs. The morning show has the stupidest people on TV.

What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about? Smile

My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums.
