I want to start practising the classic force but I would like to know some good outs the more the merrier so I have a couple of chances per performance to people.
The ones I could think of where ambitious card, invisible deck and sandwich routines. Could we make a list of as many as we can Thanks |

Again, I have to say - and I realize that this will make me even more unpopular among many, so be it - that I wish Steven Youell was here. In 2011 he published a superb e-book on the Classic Force. If you study this manuscript closely and carefully, you simply cannot miss on your Classic Force. I am hopeful both for his return and the possibility of this being available again. Since I cannot discuss what is in Steven's manuscipt, I'll intead provide other alternatives in addition to the excellent ones described already in this thread. (Note however that in Steven Youell's manuscript, he argues against having to resort to other "outs." Since reading his manuscript, I've never missed a Classic Force - not btagging BTW, it's really due to Steven's deep study and dissection of the sleight and its psychological underpinnings).
You could execute a peek. (If you think about it, a peek and a force accomplish the same thing in different ways. I won't go into detail for obvious reasons, but, the two are related with respect to what they accomplish). Use the card selected in a stab type force. Buy Charles Hopkins's booklet "Outs, Precautions, and Challenges" (IMHO, every card magician should have this bargain book). Mark Mason has done some great work on the Classic Force that's well worth the price of admission. I realize of course that mentioning Mark Mason's work is not an "out" but, unlike Steven's work, Mark Mason's work is readily available. Best, Vlad |

Do the classic force, if they pick it, great.
If they go above it, outjog it, and proceed into Gary Ouellet's Touch Force. If they go below it, as soon as you pass your target card cull it under the spread, then proceed into an under-the-spread force. Quite simple, I'm sure I'm not the first to use those as classic force outs. I've heard of people using top changes and stuff. I think its straight forward really. - Feras |

Wow; that's high praise, and from a very credible source in Vlad. |

"Well, that card doesn't matter, pick another one just because!"
I hope you understand, my dear friend, that everything you are seeing is a lie, but everything you are feeling holds true.

Maybe try for the force, but also memorize the next 5 cards and the previous cards. maybe that'll help?

I second Medifro's suggestion. I use Gary Ouellet's Touch Force which is a classic force with outs (Stanley Collin's) built-in. Alternatively I use an under-spread force. You can't miss with it, and it looks exactly like a classic force.

To R.E. Byrnes, thanks for the kind words, but it is Steven's work that is excellent.
And ... I should learn not to post after little sleep following a three hour music gig as I mistakenly omitted another great resource. Paul Green who as many of you know is a long time pro who has worked - to coin a phrase - in the trenches for many years. In addition to his considerable performing experience and chops, he was a long time regular columnist for Jim Sisti's Magic Menu. Paul's columns are the columns I re-read most from that excellent journal. Many know of his fantastic DVD "In the Trenches." But, Paul has released a lot of great magic and "Paul Green Presents the Classic Force" is no exception. The DVD is 60 solid minutes of instruction with real world demonstrations. Vlad's post covers the subject pretty well. By the way, the late Paul Chosse recommended the book "Outs Precautions and Challenges" in a topic here, and I bought that based on his recommendation. I agree with Vlad that the ideas in that book are worth knowing.
Here are some other related topics, from most-recent to oldest. Classic Force recovery This topic is only almost the same subject, but worth reading. You'll get a laugh out of the first post. I second "The Chicago Surprise" by Whit Haydn. Excellent writing on the classic force and all the pressure is off for if you miss the alternative is almost as great an effect.

I use Paul's tidbit and I do it in every show I do and it must hit. Great stuff, Paul. p.s. all the material on this should be studied to find out which key tidbit is the one that works for you. I found Paul's DVD to be the one that worked for me. Study it all.

Maybe you can find useful the book of Dani Daortiz "Libertad de Expresión", which I think is in english too but don't know the title. Also n his Utopia dvd set he share some useful thoughts, outs and tricks with different forces. IMO Dani's work is one of the best in the subject.

Yeah, performing Pop Haydn's Chicago Surprise is how I learned the classic force, some people actually find the "out" more powerful than when you hit it! But besides this routine, the best advice for learning the classic force has already been given; classic force every card you have selected, even if it doesn't have to be a force card.
Good Luck. -Leo |
