Hey guys,
My new effect will be coming out in a few days – it’s called “The 100th Monkey”. There’s a trailer and more info at http://www.magicaonline.com/the_100th_monkey.htm . I’m excited about this. Hope you enjoy it! The blurb follows: Three devastating effects based on a diabolical new principle by the creator of The Tossed Out Book Test and Intimate Mysteries, Chris Philpott. "The 100th Monkey is not just a method; it's an adventure! You're going to want to run with these simian secrets." - Max Maven "Revolutionary ideas that soon will be the standard for all mentalists who want to go that extra step for something that feels real enough to be impossible. The most valuable part of the 100th monkey is that the ideas, principals and demonstrations are worthy of being seen on TV and still be believable!" - Joe Monti, National TV Producer (Criss Angel's Mindfreak) "Chris has been a very clever boy here! He's taken a genuine psychological phenomenon and turned it to his (and now our) advantage to create something utterly baffling." - Colin McLeod “A radically new breakthrough in the art of mentalism. The 100th Monkey is brilliant and takes dual reality to the next level, the effects are powerful and well thought out, even greater is the core technique which opens the door to endless possibilities!” -Robert J. Gould “This is for the thinking mentalist who wants to be at the cutting edge of new ideas without using stooges or electronic gadgets. Real magic of the mind that takes advantage of how our minds work!”- Paul Draper “The 100th Monkey”: the performer holds up a card with a word written on it – as the audience concentrates on it – and a volunteer reads their minds! “Speechless”: you take away a volunteer’s ability to read! “The Sixth Scent”: you know who is thinking of a time, place, thing or emotion. Then without a question, tell them the exact time, place thing and emotion! Comes with DVD, gimmicks, written instructions and everything you need to perform close-up on cards or phones or for large crowds on posters or screens. No instant stooges, hypnosis or pre-show. Trailer and more info at http://www.magicaonline.com/the_100th_monkey.htm . |

Chris presented the original idea at one of the Elders' meetings. Very cool idea with a lot of possibilities. It's one of those things that will make others come up with many variations and presentations.

I just realized my typo...I meant, is this different than FAA (for anything at anytime) in Intimate Mysteries? Thanks!

This looks like it could be a devastating effect in the hands of the right performer. I've always been a fan of the "unable to read" type of effects and this looks promising.

Hey guys --
Thanks for the interest and the kind words! Let me try to answer everything... Greg Arce: I remember that Elders meeting well! At least half a dozen members came up to me afterwards and confessed they thought I was using stooges (I wasn't). I've developed the concept quite a bit since then and the comments from that meeting were extremely helpful. I tip my hat to you in particular -- I recall you were emailing me cool stuff related to the idea for days after that! Insight: this has virtually no overlap with anything in my book Intimate Mysteries -- it was just a quirk of timing that they were released so close together. And on the question of writing, I think you're asking if the spectator writes anything down. All of these effects can be done without the spectator writing anything down. I generally prefer that. But, one of the effects (the 100th Monkey) has quite a few versions and some include people writing something down -- each has their advantages and I leave it to the individual performer to choose whichever he or she prefers. BMWguy and George: many of the effects in this could be translated into other languages, but there is no way to perform this "out of the box" in any language except English. I have gotten several requests for a Spanish and French version and if there's enough interest, I'll release a version in those languages in the new year. Some of the effects would be quite easy to translate, but others rely heavily on linguistic quirks of the English language -- not impossible to translate, but tricky and way beyond my weak French and Spanish. I'm hoping that once this has been released, I will get suggestions from some bi-lingual users. Again, thanks to all. Will answer questions as I am able. -Chris |

Thank you for the helpful responses, Chris. Are there any angle issue considerations for any of the effects?

Hey Mike --
All the routines you see in the trailer are completely angle-proof. There is a variation on one of the effects that incorporates another technique that you probably don't want to do surrounded, but otherwise, all three effects can be done surrounded and the core principle is angle-proof. -Chris |

Chris Philpott is a creative beast. Anything he releases is going to find its way into the working sets of many performers.

Chris, can you comment on the examinability factor of the props? Again, sounds like you have a real winner here. Thanks!
