Okay Wayne,
Gamblers, card sharks and magicians have employed the use of holdout's for a good many years. When used properly the possible effects become true miracles with no apparent explanation to the casual observer. Indeed, from gambling supply houses in the early 1900's to well known magicians such as Charlie Miller, Harry Anderson, Fitch & Kohler, etc. holdouts have been constructed, manufactured and sold. Enter the FOX HOLDOUT. So Wayne, what inspired you to add another variation to the mix? Are you bringing something new to the table in terms of the actual mechanics or simply supplying a more economic version?

The Fox Holdout is an update on a very old principal, like many magicians, I have been using it for years. However because I'd used it for so long I'd found many other uses other than producing coins, which is the only effect I'd seen it used for. It needed some alterations, so I got to it and started making a new prototype by hand. The alterations allowed me to keep objects safe and most of all secure. The old homemade units couldn't hold onto coins for too long and would drop out after a few minutes. So it needed stripping down and rebuilding, I simply used it so often that I thought it deserved a 'makeover'. The other effects that I used it for was my own version of a signed TnR and my no TT Billswitch. The Fox Holdout has a comfortable feel to it and even when it's loaded it still sits well without feeling uncomfortable. I'm proud mostly for the fact it has four separate pockets which allows us to produce something from one side and vanish from the other. It's best uses however are when it's used discretely eg: for switching in fakes and gimmicks or ringing in stacks, with a simple roll up of the sleeves and the deed is done. There really is so many possibilities and I've covered just my favourites on the DVD, but I've had several magicians email me already excited to tell me their routines, I'm very humbled by it all.

I saw the threads with the naysayers. Being a user of Hold Outs and having made my own over the years, I decided to cut an ace bandage, make my own and try it out. To see if it really flies by 'em. It DOES! I did it TWICE! They had NO clue...so YES!
This was shot down by many due to the demo. My gosh...yeah, magicians know what to look for. And really, this is LOUSY for TV or video. But live, in person? With the correct direction of attention and timing, and using an off-beat...this is fantastic! To be fair, I threw away the ace band. Not gonna use it again. If I wanna do this, I'll buy it. I just wanted to prove a point. To myself as well as members here. This WORKS friends. I don't recommend this for beginners. Workers WILL benefit from this, if they use a hold out. It's different. And cutting edge. Thank you Wayne! Doug |

Thank you Doug for the kind words, really appreciate it, I couldn't put it better myself. I think any holdout looks far better in person than on film, because of the misdirection that's needed, it's hard to get it across on a trailer without being dishonest with the editing, it's a pet hate. I'd rather be up front with my customers as so they're happy with my product than have them try to rip me apart for trying to be clever in the editing studio. I am pleased that the reviews have been good and it's helping out the Pro's, but I would like the hobbiests to try holdouts (not just mine) because of the massive possibilities that there are with them. Perhaps it's just me, however I've lectured 27 dates through the UK and only found a handful of magicians who use Holdouts of any type including Topits, I found it all very surprising, they are such powerful utility devices even if they require practice.
Again thanks for the support, Best Wayne |
