By Johnny something or other..., anyone know where this is published or obtainable? It is a moving hole trick on a signed playing card. It resets.

Paul Wilson has a version called 'Unholy Gathering', it's a matrix type effect using holes on a playing card and can be found on his video/dvd (Knock Em Dead) Smile

Seems to me that Mike Powers is the guy to talk to on this effect, though my memory may be failing me...

Best, PSC

P.S. I only brought that up because Mike posts here frequently...

Holey Terror II is an item of mine. The original goes back to the early '80s. Paul Wilson has a version but didn't give me credit for the "hole matrix" plot. I have talked to him via email and he is now aware that Holey Terror predates his item by 20 years. He told me that after they had filmed the video, someone mentioned that I should have received credit. I'm surprised that Holey Terror II was not well known. It has sold MANY units over the years and continues to sell. Holey Terror II was reviewed in MAGIC LONG ago - also in Linking Ring.

I hope to have a moving hole DVD out sometime in 2004. It will have three moving hole items and a bonus trick.

I'm surprised as well. I bought Holey Terror II from you around 1992 or so, and have absolutely loved it since.

As far as a moving hole plot goes, this is the one to get folks. I cannot believe this thing is still selling for just $12.50

Thanks for the kind words John. Ultimately, the upcoming DVD will replace the need for buying HT II. It will also contain a totally impromptu version as well as a third moving hole item. The bonus effect is a very cool rubber band item using a hole.

Mike, so basically your new DVD will include HT 2 ("The Sequel") and HT 3 ("Impromptu terror"). Is that correct? Will it also include the "Business Card Terror" effect you showcased in your video "Mike Powers Top Secret Close Up"?

It sounds appealing... Could you give us a way to keep ourselves informed about the achievement of your project?
Thanks a lot,
Jonathan.

PS, I only know the Wilson's effect, and like the plot very much, so... I am quite interested. Smile

Mike, you mentioned an impromptu version.

Do you remember that you marketed an impromptu version? In fact, it was called exactly that: Impromptu Terror! I still have the manuscript, but Mike, I gotta tell ya, all those triple lifts combined with double lifts really busts my chops!

I also own Holey terror, but am wondering if that is the same as Holey Terror Two that was mentioned in this post.

All in all, including the impromptu version, how many versions did you market?

Daffydoug, he marketed 4 versions:
- Holey Terror (1982, I think). The grandaddy, using 2 packs
- Holey Terror 2 - The sequel. A streamlined version of the grandaddy, using only one pack
- Holey Terror 3 - Impromptu Terror
- Business Card Terror, in the video "Mike Powers Top Secret Close Up."

Mike, I already have those 4 items - do I still need your upcoming DVD? Thanks.

Hi Highmagic!

You really know the evolution of Holey Terror!
The original came out in the early 1980's and used two decks. Around 1990 Holey Terror II came out and used the single deck as you mentioned. The final version of Impromptu Terror will be both in my upcoming (hopefully!) book, now to be called "Power Plays" and also on the Moving Holes DVD.

I just got back from the MagiFest where I performed and lectured and I'm really energized. I'm going to get cooking on these projects and get them out in a few months. I think the DVD will be very easy to follow and, as I mentioned above, will have 3 moving hole effects and a bonus effect using a card with holes and a rubber band. I've got the perfect presentation for the moving hole too. It revolves around the reason they put holes in the casino decks that are sold in Las Vegas... It's a perfect plot format.

Keep us informed Mike... I usually don't do cards (will I be banned from here?) but HT2 is strong.

Strong is right, Highmagic!

So strong, in fact, that I WILL NOT show this to ANYONE until I know this backward and forward...I'm also going to make up another deck with different cards and back color, so I won't have to worry if someone has seen me do it before...this is too good...

Doing that "wipe" is where I'm hung up...it's got to be seamless and without pause...I'm telling ya guys, if you do this right, and with "flair," music will play in your name, and you will have made a reputation for yourself. Just use this as a closer, and they'll TALK about you for a long time!

Cheers!

I agree. HT2 is by far the best moving holes trick I have ever seen, and it's fun to practice too. Get it!

HN Review 99: Holey Terror II – Mike Powers

AD:

Just when you thought it was safe! Holey Terror II -- The sequel. The original created a sensation when it was released a few years ago.
The effect is straightforward and powerful.
A card is chosen from a shuffled deck. A hole is punched at each corner of the signed card. Place your thumb over one of the holes and move it to another corner! The spectator feels the holes to make sure they are real (and they are!).
Now, another hole is moved to the same corner! Again the holes are felt to be real. This is WEIRD!
Finally, you visibly move the last hole over with the others, ending with all four holes in the same corner! The spectator feels the holes one last time, then removes the card from the deck.
His signature is still on the face of the card!! You can give him the card as a souvenir.
Holey Terror II is a single deck method! Self contained and really easy to do. No pulls, magnets, etc. The card is signed. Comes complete with everything, even the hole punch and special Bicycle cards. Nothing else need ever be purchased, except more cards!

REVIEW:

This is a card trick – enough said…

Still, it gets surprising reactions from the lay audience, and is worth your time and consideration: you will need to carry around your deck of playing cards and a regular hole puncher, and perform a series of knuckle busting card moves (AAAARGH!!!)

I obviously prefer Michael Close’s Pothole Trick (done with a business card), but if you perform card tricks, this one is recommended.

OVERALL RATING: Good for you

H.

Hi Joe,

In a week or so I am going to film a friend who is contributing a cool bonus item using a rubber band and a card with a hole in it. After that, it's my turn. I'll be filming the performances in real world situations rather than the studio. The explanations will be filmed in the studio. I hope to have it in the can by the end of the summer.
