I think it's a great trick. How many here wouldn't even have heard ofit if it wasn't released separately?

I'll be doing a comparison. I can say that I have already taken a look at the included coin and it is definitely nice. Not "amazing," but nice. I'd say it's a notch or two better than the one by Tango. I'd elaborate, but don't want to really say what the item is.
It is, however, weird to market something by itself after it has been released in a compilation dvd. Especially as "available here for the first time ever." Is that just a play on words? "Available HERE for the first time ever" instead of "Available for the first time ever?" But I don't know that that is true either. In all fairness, I'll view both and report back. |

If this product is the same which its not. Then because its been released it shouldnt be released anywhere else? The artist doesn't have the right to sell his product anyway that he can?
As much as I dislike Jay Sankey he rehashes the same old stuff over and over BUT he has that right to maximize the profit he makes on a creation. its simply called marketing. Again I say this with no malice and with all due respect. I like Jamie but diagree with his assessment on this project. However I agree with everything else he says when he agrees with me |

One of the differences at my end, since I already own the original routine, is the quality of the gimmick. A high quality item would be worth the price all on its own. Interested in hearing about this aspect.

I took one for the team. I now own both Imagination Coins and The World's Greatest Magic for the gimmick coin necessary to perform the effect.
First, on the gimmick: I find the gimmick for Imagination Coins to be quite good. In comparison to one made by Tango, it is deeper (allowing for better coverage). However, details on the face of the coin are more "faded," er the engraving is more shallow than that of a Tango. I imagine step one of creating these coins is to pound them (I could be wrong). In the case of this gimmicked coin, the assumed pounding process affected the face a tad. However, I find the face of the coin to be very soft, and to me that's kinda desirable. It feels good. The deeper gimmick is also a bit more assuring considering the fact that Imagination Coins is done in the spectator's hand (mostly). I think it was Kozmo that valued this coin at about $25. I would actually value it a bit higher. The Tango is $28 on Penguin. I'd put this one at over $30. The little purse that comes with the effect is a Pochi Bit purse. They go for about $10, and are hard to come by. So you do, truthfully, have more than $40 worth of hardware included in this package. However, the questions remain... 1. Is the advertising being honest when it says "available here for the first time ever" when it seems as though the truth is that it's available here for the third time ever? 2. If you do not own the gimmicked coin, is this the best way to learn the effect? And/or the best bang for your buck? 3. If you do own the gimmicked coin, is this the best way to learn the effect and spend your money? I don't know yet. I have to get through all of these materials first. I'll report back. |

Ok...all caught up. Here is my response to the last three questions I posed after explaining the value of the hardware in the individual release of Imagination coins.
1. Is the advertising being honest when it says "available here for the first time ever?" Absolutely not. This effect is present in "Inside the Mind of Garrett Thomas vol 2" and in "World's Greatest Magic- Ex Sh." It is a MAJOR stretch of the imagination to indicate that this new dvd includes enough bonus content to justify it's advertisement as a new release. Absurd really. 2. If you own the gimmicked coin, buy the World's Greatest Magic dvd. The good news is that Garrett Thomas is a great instructor, and he was when he first instructed people on how to do the trick, too. He covers all you need to know about the procedures, moves, and audience management. The bonus is, you receive TONS of other content on this dvd from David Roth, Michael Ammar, Dan Harlan, Mark Leveridge, Harry Allen, and Jon Allen. The effects aren't nearly as redundant as the content in the Imagination Coins dvd. And the difficulty level varies. There's something for everyone. And I just paid ten bucks for it. It's my new favorite WGM. 3. If you don't own the gimmicked coin, is this the best way to learn the effect and spend your money? That depends. I like the included coin and the change purse. I value them at or above the current price of Imagination Coins. Truthfully, buying Imagination Coins for the hardware alone is not a bad idea. But you'll miss out on the aforementioned performances/explanations in the WGM dvd. However, $28 for a Tango Coin, $15 for a WGM dvd, you're at $43 already....mathematically it might just make more sense for you to buy Imagination Coins and then ALSO buy WGM dvd for as cheap as you can find it. If you own Imagination Coins as released in any of the first two releases...you'd be a complete madman to buy it again. The bonus effects are just that..."bonus." For me, I find the coins across to be unnecessarily "involved." I find "Jump" to be too cumbersome of an effect for me to even consider building the gimmick. Eric Jones is always great, but he provides more rhetorical color and clarification than anything else. There is TONS of waxing prophetic to the point of boredom in this dvd. Sometimes seemingly irrelevant discussions about methodologies...any conversation which contains the line "you cannot reverse time" is one I really don't want to listen to. And this gets a little heavy into that kind of thing. It just doesn't tie these methodologies and theories into the effect at hand so well. Explaining to me how to throw an imaginary coin in a convincing way doesn't exactly apply to an effect that involves no throwing of invisible coins. I see the distant connection...but that's my point...it's too much wasted time. The audience management issues are covered enough during the trick explanation in any of the dvd's. An extra 45 minutes of content was unnecessary- and really not THAT MUCH helpful. The effect just gets beaten to death. I hope someone finds this helpful. |

Robvs,
I think we are talking about the same move. It is a similar move as done by others. I agree that this move works particularly well with one. Due to the nature of the ], the move can be done a bit differently and it is much more deceptive, IMO. Thanks for input. KJ |

Even if you have this effect from the WGM dvd **or** the Inside the Mind of Garrett Thomas dvd set, THIS DVD with included ($25 Roy Kueppers gimmick) and handy coin purse, is WELL Worth picking up at a mere $40.
Also, the packaging clearly states "Garrett's Imagination Coins concept gets revisited and updated with a treasure trove of special bonuses that get even stronger reactions! He re-teaches the original version now with more detail and more intimate close up instruction. Special guest ERIC JONES stops by to interview Garrett on this effect and share some of his personal thoughts on Coins Across." I don't see where that can be conceived as falsely advertising this as "brand new" i do own both of the other dvds that have this effect and have a couple "lesser quality" ]'s Tango and Johnson - neither of which is as good a quality as the one I received here. I do have a Bob Swadling quarter ] from my Triception set that is of equal quality (but it is shimmed). As I say in the first line here. Well worth the small cost for what you get. No regrets here.

I, too, quoted exact words (from the ad-copy). Re-read. One false statement makes an advertisement false- not the other way around. Nonetheless, I've made a fair assessment of everything included. If purchasing the same effect three times is the way you like to spend your money, go ahead. It's a strange phenomenon to encourage others to do the same. I've already weighed in on exactly what the "treasure trove" of content entails. I cannot fathom why you wouldn't buy a $25 ] after owning this twice, and I COMPLETELY scrutinized the content of each DVD to present a fair comparison. I even agree with you on the quality of the gimmick and purse. DVD is fluff and filler if you've seen the other. Major overstatements about the quality of the bonus features.
