Hey Magic Joe,
I just went through this process and didn’t find too much on the subject. So, I wrote my own. All you do decide on a few themes common in science you want to illustrate. Then look at every prop you own and challenge yourself to adapt it to your theme. I’m not going to give you my whole show but a few themes I came up with are: Famous Scientists Scientific Method Physical change versus chemical change Newton’s law of Gravity By the way, if you are familiar with the effect ‘Spelling Bee’ you’ll note they usually have 7 letters, and yes, SCIENCE has 7 letters. I hope that gets you thinking! Good luck!

Ken thanks for your input. All help is great. I do have a spelling trick that spells out science but thanks for another suggestion.

Stevespanglerscience.com I haven't met him. Years ago his parents were on the magic convention circuit Steve makes appearances on Ellen with great visual science stuff. Stuff for sell on his site. Library theme 2014 is Fizzz boom bang around my neck of the woods. Be safe with all that. Harris

The late BOB BROWN'S "SCIENCE CIRCUS" played for years in the North Carolina, Virginia area. He had three or four (poaaibly more) programs which kept him BUSY. He used basic subjects like ELECTRICITY, or "Liquid Air", HELIUM, etc. No magic as such, just spectacular demonstrations.
Lynn Bloxsom had a Liquid Air Program on the Lyceum circuits for many years. the late D. Forrest Kuhns bought the props when Bloxsom died, and was very successful with it. In 1971, I produced a program for North Dakota State University in which environmental pollution was the topic I called it "THE PUZZLING ENVIRONMENT", and presented it about 350 times that season. I used magic effects to illustrate the various problems. The script, prop list, etc. is published in Magic Inc.'s SUCCESS BOOK. (There were four volumes. I can look up the volume number if you are interested.

Steve Spangler has great science-oriented props, which with a little imagination and effort can be turned into routines:
https://www.stevespanglerscience.com/lab/experiments Also, Barry Mitchell released a science show DVD: http://www.barrymitchellproducts.com/sto......_science Barry also sells a book on science tricks: http://www.barrymitchellproducts.com/sto......nce-book |

I wonder if Mitchel's very clever light heavy box could be morphed into a science routine?

Steve Spangler had great stuff. I often do a science show instead of a magic show, and kids love it. Tony Griffith has some good stuff: http://www.tonygriffith.co.uk/magic_science.htm
I can recommend his book.

Rather then "bending" a science theme around old magic effects, why not do an actual science demonstration show. They are very commercial and then rather than doing pseudo science you would be demonstrating actual science. Good luck!

MRSharpe, you are dead right. What I do is perform simple experiments, regarding each one like I regard a trick. I build it into a routine. Six tricks, each one taking ten minutes. Some involving volunteers, some not, with a spectacular one at the end. Just like a magic show.

If you want to demonstrate some science of illusion/perception/vision type stuff, Jerry Andrus has some old videos and books that have some really cool stuff. I've been wanting to use some of it.
