I have a soft walking liberty gravity flipper and shell set I purchased probably 10 years ago (not sure) and I don't remember if it was Lassen or Schoolcraft. I definately know it was one of them and not Sasco. I remember they were quite expensive even at that time and I had to order it and wait to be shipped. I did this atan IBM convention somewhere. This makes me think it is a Lassen set. My question is this. Is there a way of telling which manufacturer I have and which is considered better?

The lassen will look better lol j/k...if there really is no hallmark on the bottom, it would be difficult to determine the maker of the shell...if its a flipper, Lassen's Flipper is all one piece milled on the flipping side. The grove for the band is actually made into the coin with the correct machining. Schoolcrafts have like a metal shim basically glued to the one side, and it looks a little cheap...If that doesn't make sense, PM me and ill take a picture of my Flipper for you from Lassen. Better or worse, they both have their differences. Some will argue schoolcraft is better then Lassen, and Lassen fans will bash schoolcraft...its all personal preference...Me I am a Lassen fan 100%. Ive owned a few schoolcraft and wasn't as impressed, but that's just me....

Its probably some old johnson or tango work because it is just a regular flipper (not gravity). The fact that glue was used (scratch marks showing glue removal) also adds to that. With regards to wait time and price, since it is still a walking liberty set, you may have needed to custom request it from those gaffers at a fairly high price as well. The cut of the flipper doesn't seem like something lassen or schoolcraft would make.

Thanks-that helps. Yes, it uses double stick tape that I scratched off.

That is an early Lassen. It has a milled edge on the insert. No one else did that, and the jagged cut before the gravity's came along. I had one just like it.

Thank you. I thought it was a Lassen but was not sure. I appreciate the info.

Thanks Ron. Those pictures show an interesting progression in Lassen's early work and thought process. Everyone has to start somewhere, and the cut and remilling are different from what others were doing back then.
