Hey Guys,
I Would really like to hear from anyone who owns both books. I have read reviews on both and know they are both good but would love to know if one is better than the other. One step further.... maybe there is a book which beats them both? Thanks everyone! |

Mentalism Inc. hands down. This is a pro tipping how he makes his living. Hickok details the how and the why of his act as well as how he deals with a corporate audience. Not to take away from Theater of the Mind, but I owned both books and decided to sell Theater because it just was not for me. I am sure someone else will think differently. Hopefully several opposing viewpoints will allow you to make an informed decision.

Theater of the Mind if you want new effects to use. Mentalism Inc if you want to learn how to structure what you already know into a workable act.

Effects wise few books compare to TOTM.
I also like the presentations and storyline Richardson uses. it is also almost half the price of mentalism Inc. |

I find myself going back to Theater of the Mind time after time, and always finding something new. The more I learn and grow in mentalism, the more I get out of that book. The generosity of spirit that Richardson conveys is, in my opinion, an extraordinarily important quality for a performer to cultivate. Quite simply, it is the best book in the field of magic I own.
Mentalism Inc is also a very good book--a complete act structured and scripted; but for me, it is not the kind of book that fosters creativity. There is a danger that one will simply take the book and do a prefabricated show. But that said, there is valuable theory (which whether you agree with it or not will get you thinking about important mentalism issues) and some very nice routining of some standard effects. But . . . if I had $65 to spend on mentalism books? I'd buy Theater of the Mind, Annemann's Practical Mental Effects, PK Time, and the Jinx on CD ROM, and with the change left over buy a double-scooped cherry vanilla ice cream cone. Jack Shalom

I love both those books. But between the two I would probably go with theature of the mind.

Turk,
I am very glad to see someone getting some use out of Theater. An unread book is a travisty in my mind (with a very few exceptions.) Samuel
